Cliff Elizabeth Sowell

Cliff was a homemaker, a mother, a businesswoman, & a church soloist. She often sang at funerals to help those in their time of grief.

Cliff Elizabeth Sowell, 96, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, in Cleburne. Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne. Cliff attended school at Morgan and graduated from Clifton. During the Depression she worked in Meridian for the county agent and in the tax office under Preston Hornbuckle. Cliff married Thomas Milton Sowell, a businessman, in 1935. She and their son lived with her parents in Morgan during WWII while Major "Doc" Sowell was overseas for 2 1/2 years, serving in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. Cliff was a member of the Liberty Club and sang in the Methodist Church choir as well as soloist activities. Cliff and "Doc" Sowell lived in Cleburne and operated a tire store. Miss Cliff lived the end years and days of her life at Heritage Trails Nursing Home where she was loved and cared for. Cliff was active and alert tho her hearing and eyesight failed her, her faith and love for God remained strong! She enjoyed listening to Christian talk radio and having the bible read out loudly to her. She is missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.M. "Doc" Sowell, and two brothers.
