Christian second son of and 3rd child of John Valentine Hamme was born on his fathers plantation. He was a revolutionary soldier, a private in the Fourth Company, First Battalion, York County Militia commanded by his bother-In -Law Capt. Daniel May.

He was a member of the Salem Reformed Church near Dover, Pa. He was a charter member at its incorporation May 29, 1824.

A soldier in the Revolution serving under Captain Yost Harbaugh, he was one of the first settlers in Dover township, York County, PA. On June 20, 1780 he married Anna Maria Yoner and they had seven children:
