About Capt. Claes Cornelissen van Schouwen
There seem to be two Claes Cornelissens
Not the same as Claes Corneliszen van Schouwen who married Metje Herpertse. Not the father of Pieter Claesen Wyckoff
From William J. Hoffman, "Claes Cornelissen Van Schouw(en), Meutelaer and the Wyckoff Ancestry", The American Genealogist Vol. 22, page 65
Biography
Claes was only 2 when his father died in 1599, and in 1603 he was put under the guardianship of his maternal grandfather Jacob Van Der Goes of Walcheren, Holland, and Colmar, Sweden, and he learned the trade which often took him by ship to the Dutch Islands. In a1624 he returned to Boda, Island of Oland in Denmark to introduce his new wife to his family. In December, 1625 he owned a ship called the "Svenska Kronan", and his home at this time was at Zierikzee, on the Island of Schouen, in Holland. The 30 years war caused him to sell his boats, [and he came to New Amsterdam, where he died - NO]
Comments
Some or many claim that he is the son of Claes Cornelissen van Schouw and Margaret van der Goes. There is no evidence that Pieter Claesen Wyckoff was connected to Claes Cornelisz Van Schouw. See Geni Project: Gustav Anjou. The Wyckoff Family Association was another victim of the fraudulent Swede. I have written about 30pp on the History and Meaning of the Wyckoff surname and submitted it to the Wyckoff Association. If you are subscribing members to the Wyckoff Association, you may see it in the near future. - William Wyckoff
