Story on the marriage from the book Life As it Was in My Time by John Edward Lee Ball, Sr As Told to Jo Lawson (Joeldean Ball Lawson) Authors Press 2002
Ch 3 pg 13-14
"Sometime after mother had died. Dad began preaching again and then we moved to Dayton, Tennessee. It was when dad was preaching at a cottage prayer meeting that Mrs. Bessie Henry came to the meetings. She had four children whose names were Willie Mae, Lucille, Grover, and Felix. Mrs. Bessie had long wavy hair that reached almost to her ankles. Boy, did she get Dad's eye! After a time Dad and Mrs. Bessie got married. This is the way the wedding happened. Sister Bessie was down by the spring washing clothes. As the preacher came by in a horse-drawn buggy, Dad came up out of the strawberry patch to the spring where Sister Bessie was washing clothes. She took off her apron, laid it aside and they held hands while the preacher performed the wedding ceremony. After their wedding vows, Sister Bessie went back to washing clothes and Dad went back to the strawberry patch."
