About Bernard S. McDermott
Per his obituary in the Dubuque Telegraph Herald of 20 July 1924, p. 7:
"Bernard S. McDermott, an old resident of LaFayette county, a farmer, died here July 12, and was buried from the Holy Rosary Catholic church Tuesday morning, July 15. He is survived by his wife and a family of ten children, most of whom are grown up. Two brothers, Patrick and Michael, who reside in Milwaukee with their families, attended the funeral. Many of his former neighbors and friends now living at Mineral Point and Ridgeway also came to pay their last respects."
A more comprehensive obituary in the Darlington Democrat published 24 July 1924 clarifies that he died in Willow Springs and gives additional information:
"Bernard S. McDermott was born in the town of Kendall, August 22, 1863, and died at his home in the town of Willow Springs, July 12, 1924, at the age of 60 years, eleven months and ten days. In March 1895, he bought the Armitage farm where he has since resided. On April 12, 1898, he was united in marriage to Alice Armstrong. Twelve children blessed this union, two dying in infancy. Ten survive their father and with their mother and his two brothers, Mike and Pat, were at his bedside when he passed away. The surviving children are namely: Leona, Mary, Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts, Romanus, Alice, Faye, Bernard, Anna, and Gerald and Geraldine."
