Art Rooney II

Arthur Joseph "Art" Rooney II (born September 14, 1952) is the president and co-owner of the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers.

Arthur Joseph "Art" Rooney II (born September 14, 1952) is team President and co-owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League.

He is the oldest of nine children of Steelers’ Chairman, Dan Rooney, and Patricia Rooney, and he is the grandson of Steelers’ founder “The Chief,” Art Rooney, Sr.

Mr. Rooney was named team President in May 2003. Prior to that, he served as Vice President and General Counsel of the Steelers, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Steelers since 1989. Mr. Rooney was principally responsible for the design, development and financing plan for Heinz Field, which opened in 2001.

He currently serves as Chairman of the NFL’s Stadium Committee, and serves on numerous NFL boards, including the Legislative Committee, the Management Council Executive Committee, the International Committee, the NFL Foundation and the Digital Media Committee.

Mr. Rooney graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 with a B.A. in Political Science. He then attended Duquesne University’s School of Law where he earned his law degree in 1982, earning highest honors in legal ethics and responsibility. While completing his law degree, Mr. Rooney studied international business transactions and the law of the European Economic Community at the University of Exeter in England.

He currently holds an Of Counsel position with the law firm Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.

Mr. Rooney is also very active in the Pittsburgh community, devoting a substantial amount of his time to various organizations. He currently serves on the boards of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Public Theater, the Extra Mile Education Foundation, the United Way of America (Allegheny County, Pennsylvania) and numerous other ventures.

In May 2013, Mr. Rooney was honored for his commitment to the Pittsburgh community, and was presented with the 2013 Person of Vision Award by Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh. He was also honored for his six years of service as the Chair of the United Way of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In his final year as the organization’s Chair, the United Way set a new record by raising more than $33 million.

Mr. Rooney is married to Greta. They have four children, Meghan, Dan, Mary and Annie.

On September 11, 2014, Mr. Rooney and New York Giants Co-Owner John Mara announced that they would oversee the independent investigation concerning the Ray Rice elevator video. Former FBI Director Robert Mueller III is conducting the investigation. In a joint statement, Mr. Rooney and Mr. Mara said "Our role is not to conduct or direct the investigation but to support Mr. Mueller and assist him in gaining whatever access or resources he needs. At the conclusion of Mr. Mueller’s investigation, we will receive his findings on behalf of the League’s owners. Our sole motive here is to get the truth and then share Mr. Mueller’s findings with the public."
