April 9, 1409 – Arend, Arnold, Herr Von Egmond died. Arend was born about 1340, the son of Jan I, Heer van Egmond, and Guyotte van Amstel, heiress of IJsselstein. He was lord of Egmond and IJsselstein. With his wife Jolanda, Gräfin von Leiningen, he had two sons, Jan II and Willem, of whom the former would have progeny. He also had an illegitimate son Willem, bastaard van Egmond. From 1372 Arend was a member of the ministry of Albrecht von Bayern, regent of Holland, Zeeland and Hainaut. In 1396 he took part in the campaigns against the West Friesians, and in 1398 he acquired the seigniories of the Ameland and Het Bilt in Friesland. In 1400 he commanded the troops who stabilized Friesland. Because of his allegiance to the Cod party, Arend was in conflict with Albrecht's son and successor Willem VI, Count of Holland, Zeeland and Hainaut. Arend died on 9 April 1409 and was buried in the abbey of IJsselstein. His wife died on 24 April 1434 and was buried in the Dominican abbey in’s-Gravenhage. His grandson, Arnold, became Duke of Guelders. His great-granddaughter, Marie, became Queen of Scotland as wife of King James II.
