About Anne Stiller
Anne Meara (born September 20, 1929) is an American actress and comedian. She and Jerry Stiller were a prominent 1960s comedy team, appearing as Stiller and Meara, and are the parents of actor/comedian Ben and actress Amy Stiller.
Actress. Along with her husband Jerry Stiller, she was half of the Stiller and Meara comedy team. She was the mother of actress Amy Stiller and actor Ben Stiller. Born to parents of Irish descent, her father was an attorney, her mother committed suicide when Anne was eleven years old. After deciding to pursue a career in entertainment, she enrolled at the Dramatic Workshop at the New School in Manhattan and went on to appear in summer stock productions. She met Jerry Stiller when they were attending a theatrical audition in 1953. The pair married one year later (she converted to Judaism a few years after their marriage) and formed one of the more prolific comedy duos of their era, initially performing on the New York City night club circuit. They gained national attention during the 1960s with the aid of numerous appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show". Highly versatile, she experienced an extensive career on stage and was the recipient of an Obie Award for her performance in "Madchen in Uniform" (1955). In 1956, she marked her Broadway debut in the production "A Month in the Country". She appeared in numerous TV programs including "Archie Bunker's Place" (1979 to 1982), "ALF" (1987 to 1989), "All My Children" (1992 to 1999), "King of Queens" (1999 to 2007) and "Sex and the City (2002 to 2004). Among her motion picture credits include "The Out-of-Towners" (1970), "Lovers and Other Strangers" (1970), "Fame" (1980) and "Night at the Museum" (2006).
