About Anne Burnes
The information on the Rock Creek Cemetery gravesite indicates Mrs. Anne Burnes Wightt with a birth date of 02/24/1740 and death on January 28,1807. Although numerous records indicate a later birth date, all records agree with the death date, as it was published in the newspaper at the time.
Anne Wightt should not be confused with her aunt, also named Anne Wightt, who was born in about 1725.
Anne Burnes was Ann Wightt. She was born within the Ten Miles Square. The Wightts lived on the farm with the patent name "Inclosure." Her brother, John (John Magruder Wightt) owned it. From him, it descended to the Queen family, from the Queen to the Brooks family - however, all of the same family, of different names because of the men the daughters admitted into it. The tract is the suburb, Brookland, for rose culture fame.
John Van Ness was the administrator of her estate.
