Anna Collard Thurston Kessler was first married to James Thurston in Calhoun Co., IL. He died in 1851 during the cholera epidemic and probably died of cholera. They had 5 children: Mary R. Thurston Devening born Apr 1844, Laura Diane Thurston Heiderscheid born 9 Jan 1845, David W. born about 1847 but must have died quite young, Eliza Jane Thurston Anderson born 14 Feb 1850 and Lizzie born 1852 but no record of when she died. It would be assumed that Anna was pregnant with Lizzie when James died.

KESSLER. 3 January 1907: Mrs. Kessler, aged lady died at her home 4 miles west of Fieldon, Sat. 29 December at 7 pm. Funeral from home. Additional obit: December 1906: Mrs. Theodore Kessler died at home of daughter, Mrs. Heiderschied near Fieldon .
