Christopher Joynt (bapt. 1798), a stonemason, married Elizabeth OConnor in the Roman Catholic church at Rathkeale, 29 July 1819. The witnesses were David Ferguson and Elizabeths sister, Ellen O'Connor. There would seem to have been a brother Timothy OConnor as well. Six children are known: Christopher (born c.1821), Alice (bapt. 18 Jan. 1823 - witnesses Charles Ferguson and Ellen Joynt), Ann (born 1 January 1829), Margaret (born c. 1831), Dudley and Hugh. Alice and perhaps her brother Christopher Joynt as well emigrated to America. The present church in Rathkeale is St. Mary's which dates from the 1860s. Griffith's Valuation (1852) lists a David Ferguson as occupier of three properties owned by Jon Studdert in Rathkeale: a yard at 48 Fair Green Hill worth Ð1 a year, a building ground and yard at 37 Old Chapel Lane covering 13 perches worth 5/- a year and a building and ground at 31 Old Chapel Lane with no value. David Ferguson owned most houses in Old Chapel Lane.
