About Andrew Jackson Nutt
In 1850, Andrew J. Nutt is seen working in Dover, NH and living in the home of Richard Berry. The "Wentworth Genealogy" states that he moved to Indiana and served in the 39th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. According to his family, following his enlistment, he was "never heard from again".
No record of an Andrew J. Nutt enlisting in the 39th Indiana Infantry can be found. Instead, he was the Andrew J. Nutt, resident of Hebron, Illinois, who enlisted in Company D, Illinois 52nd Infantry Regiment, 23 February 1864. He was mustered out on 4 April 1865, and received a "disability discharge". On 9 June 1879, Andrew J. Nutt, "invalid", who had served in D 52 Illinois Infantry and in K 6 Wisconsin Infantry, began receiving a Civil War pension.
Census records show that, following his service in the Civil War, Andrew Jackson Nutt moved to Wisconsin. He cannot be found in 1870, but, in 1880, he is found living and working on the farm of Iram E. Witter and his wife, Sarah, in Clinton, Rock Co. It is likely that he never married. He appears to have died in Wisconsin between 1880 and 1900.
