Biography
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/FitzAlan-619
Aline was the daughter of Edmund FitzAlan, 2nd Earl of Arundel, and Alice de Warenne.[1][2][3][4] Her birth date is not known.
Aline married Roger le Strange[3][4][5] before July 1351.[1][2] They had the following children:
- John[1][2][4][5]
- Roger[1][2][5]
- Ebles, who became rector of Wistanstow, Shropshire and Gresforrd, Denbighshire[1][2]
- Edward[1][2][5]
- Edmund[1][2]
- Joan, who married Thomas Poynings[1][2]
- Lucy, who married William Willoughby[1][2][5]
In 1369 John de Rochford and his wife Isabel sued Aline and her husband for Isabel's downright to a third of the manor of Shenstone, Staffordshire.[6]
Aline received 1500 marks under the 1375 will of her brother Richard, in addition to 1000 marks which he had already given her and her husband.[7]
Following her husband's death in 1382, Aline asked Richard de Ellesmere, who held the living of Llanymynech, Shropshire, to secure her dower rights.[1][2]
Aline died on 20 January 1385/6.[1][2]
Origins
The will of Aline's brother Richard names "my nephews and nieces sons and daughters of Roger le Strange and to my sister Dame Alaine le Strange wife to the said Roger." (Cited in Medlands - https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/ENGLISH%20NOBILITY%20MEDIEVAL1.htm....) That gives proof that Aline, daughter of Edmund FitzAlan, married Roger le Strange.
Research Notes
Marlyn Lewis gives a confused account of this family and should not be trusted - in particular confusing Aline's son Ebles, a priest who died before 12 December 1401, with Ebles le Strange, Lord of Knockin, who died in 1335 and MAY have been the father of an illegitimate daughter Isabel.[8]
