About Alexander Crockett Ritchie, I
By the 1830 Kentucky census the County lines had been redrawn and Alexander and his family were now in Perry Co., Kentucky.
Crockett lived in a cave while he built a house for his family in Hammonds Gap in what is now Perry Co., Ky. The house is no longer there as it was destroyed by strip mining for coal. Some Family Researchers believe that Crockett was 100 yrs old when he died. More than likely he was in his 90's at his death in 1878. They also claim that Betsy was 100 yrs old. But the facts are that she does not show up on any census record after 1840. They are both buried in the Ritchie Cemetery in Perry Co., Ky. Their headstones were handcarved by a Ritchie descendant almost 100 yrs after Crocketts death.
