- He met and married Arima Mary Sill in 1911 She was aged 18. The Sills were a local farming family in Ruawai.
- The first of their children Gytha,was born in 1911, followed by 2 more boys who died young, Ian in 1915, then Jean (known as Shirley) in 1919, Ken in 1921,

- he died of a heart complications. He had very bad lungs damaged from gases in World War I and on return, used to vomit green liquid ( a complication from the likes of mustard gas etc).
- He is buried in the Arapohue Cemetery, Kaipara District, Northland, New Zealand
- Arima went on to remarry in. 1926... to Walter Blackstock ( 3 years after Alexander died) and had 3 more children, Audrey, Vivienne, and Walter (Known as Bruce). Bruce was killed as a young man in a motorbike accident on a country road.
