CENSUS: 1880 Van Zandt Co., Texas census (dist 122, hse 151/178). Enumerated with William were his wife, Adaline, and two step-sons, F. W. Cause, 18, b. England (mother & father b. England); and Frank Cause, 13, b. Texas (mother & father b. England). The family next door (hse 152/179) was Amos (age 54) and Patience (age 48) Biddy. In their household were two step-daughters, E. Steadam, 26, TX; and A. Steadam, 22, TX (father b. AL and mother b. GA)., Both step-daughters were listed as widowed or divorsed.

Just recently found the death certificate for Adaline Stidham Woodall. It lists Calvin Stidham and Patience Lowry as her parents. This is my great grandmothers sister. My great grandmother died giving birth (or so we are told) to my grandmother. There were two stories, one Dr Monk carried her home with him in his coat pocket. The other story was he carried her home in his saddle bag. My grandmother, sister, Lillian was given to their dad's family. My grandmother was treated badly. As an infant a man rocking her had a corn cob pipe and the tobacco fell out on top of her head. As a result, she had to wear her hair up to cover the scar. In addition, she had crossed eyes. She ended up in Addaline's family. Her husband was a mean old man. This has been my difficult line. So finding the names of their parents was very exciting for me.
