Disambiguation

There are three separate Abraham Emmons Patriots:

  • 1. Abraham Isaac Emmons m. Margaret Tice, served in First Regiment, New Jersey in 1780
  • 2. Abraham Emmons Jr., m. Susanaah and Sarah/Seytie Van Voorhies (he is buried in Gravesend, Brooklyn, NY), who is the son of Abraham Isaac Emmons and Margaret Tice and whose siblings were John, Isaac, and Ann, served First Regiment New Jersey in 1781
  • 3. Abraham Emmons, son of John Emans and Teuntje Van Dyck, m. Hannah Lane and whose child was Uriah Emans, served in Hunderton County Militia, New Jersey in 1777. Uriah Emmons is NOT the son of Abraham Isaac Emmons. He is not named in Abraham Isaac Emmons Will, which is here: https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/2793/32669_236614-00131/26389?...: The Will for Abraham Isaac Emmons is the 1785, Oct. 15, Emens, Abraham, Sr. of Monmouth NOT the previous listing for the 1795, Oct. Oct. 21, Emans, Abraham of Hardwick. These Wills have been conflated with each other to the discredit of each Patriot. It is recommended to revise your geneaologies. It is appropriate that all three Patriots are recognized separately for their service to the country.
