About Aaron Collier, Sr.
A Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA (Soldier). DAR Ancestor # A024417
Shadrack Collier and Aaron Collier were almost certainly brothers. This can be ascertained from their proximity in Montgomery, Grayson, and Lee Counties; the ages of their oldest children; and names of their children. They were not sons of John Collier and Sisely (Hall) Collier of Augusta County, Virginia. These all moved to Kentucky soon after their father's will was probated in 1765. Both Aaron Colliers served in the Revolution, but in different units.
He and his brother Shadrack lived in Grayson County, Virginia for many years before moving to Lee County.
He took the oath of allegience in 1777. In 1782 he proved up his land claim and bought rights to another tract on Snake Creek. He paid tax on himself, three horses and seven cattle. Five years later he owned six horses and seven cattle. In 1798 at age 48 Aaron deeded his Snake Creek farm to his son Randle (Randolph) and moved with his wife to Lee County, where he settled in Turkey Cove. He was in Lee County before 1800, evidenced by deed of gift to his daughter Mary, dated 4 August 1800. He purchased 280 acres on Wallens Ridge in Lee County and built a 16x18 foot house of wood that was appraised raised at $400.
While residing in Lee County, Virginia he applied for a Revolutionary War pension, 23 June 1835, and stated that while residing in Montgomery County, Virginia he served from June 1780, three months under Capt. George Parris and was out against the Indians and that in Octobert 1781 or 1782 he entered the service under Capt. George Parris and marched against the Tories and had a battle with them near the Shallow Ford on the Yadkin River. The claim was not allowed, as there was no proof of six months service, as required by the pension law.
His great granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Barron and second great grandson Aaron Collier, Sr. were not only second cousins once removed, they were also spouses.
