Perhaps part of the angst is created by the fact that when you are not listed as the Primary Manager then 1) these profiles do not show when you do a list of Profiles you manage and 2) when you do a Geni-search on the name, you are not shown as a Manager (because it only lists the first one). So folks may not realize they are still a manager - and even if they do, it makes it harder to track, etc.
The Primary Manager is the one messages go to when someone tries to 'contact the Manager' - a reason for some to care, even if they understand they are "one of the managers"
Another contributor to the problem was the past policy, no longer in effect, whereby a Profile only had one Manager. So back then, when merges took place, only one person got the Profile, the other was dropped. Not sure if any retroactive correction/change was ever done on those.
