Somehow Isaac Doty, Sr.@Isaac Doty/Doughty got made the father of my 7th great grandfather Joseph Doty@Joseph Doty/Dotey, Jr instead of my real 8th great grandfather Joseph Doty@Joseph Doty
What can be done to correct this?
Terry Jackson (Switzer) - Edward Doty is the father of both Isaac Doty and Joseph Doty Sr. Joseph Doty Sr. is the father of Joseph Doty Jr.
Terry Jackson (Switzer) Thanks. It does tend to get very confusing. It seems every Doty family used the same names for their children, especially in those early generations.
I have two questions that I posted on the Dutch pages, but that may be interesting for more people:
I asked the collaborate with someone because I have a lot of data in common and want to build on the data that is already there.
That person has not answered the request.
What should I do?
I see data that I think are not correct and the owner of the profile does not respond to a message.
What should I do?
GENI is absolutely brilliant in allowing non-computer experts to accurately build and maintain their tree and collaborate with others. The ability to add photos and other forms of documentation is great. The problem is the missing "UNDO" button for tree managers. Someone mistakenly merged two different people on my tree and caused major havoc. One person ended up with an extra "husband" and all of his family along with two different sets of parents. I would recommend some safeguards. Being on the edge of the tree is one thing but having two different sets of parents is a very big clue that something is wrong. I submitted the "chain saw" request for correcting my tree and waited. Finally, GENI implemented a new "CHAT" and I got a hold of someone who escalated the matter to their support team. Charles managed to fix the matter in minutes. I am extremely happy that he resolved the issue. From a computer science perspective I would like to make the following recommendation. Each person or node in the true must have a unique identity. When a merge occurs GENI must decide which of the two unique identities must be retained and which must be "discarded". If they would add a field in the structure of the node or a link for chaining repeatedly merged people, a manager could be able to identify merged people and perform an "UNMERGE" which would split the node into two restoring the original identity to the one which was lost in the merge. GENI would then notify both managers of the UNMERGE and they would be able to examine and correct any information which got attached to one person or the other in the merge process. Obviously, the algorithm of the unmerge can incorporate much more intelligence that I can outline here but this could be very helpful to non-computer expert managers and get rid of problems that can only be handled today by GENI technical support.
In conclusion GENI is brilliant and I am extememly pleased. Thank you.
Geni isn''t brillant at all, and the ability to add photo's, forms, documentation, sources, etc. isn't great.
That is the reason why Geni with his staff and curators are working hard to improve Geni. The undo tool is under development and a lot of other improvements too. Users, curators and other contributors proposed and and are proposing and discussing a lot of improvements, but all needs time ! You're welcome with your suggestions, don't hesitate to open new discussions for every suggestion of an improvement. We'll appreciate that. But what we also appreciate sometimes is patience.

There could be more conflicts in this tree I did only a quick search
Hey Job, I did a few things there. But, the situation around Floris I and Floris II van der Woert looks a bit 'messy' to me. I think that people are mapped to wrong relatives (in relationship to the van Voornes and Merwedes). Perhaps you're working on it, so I don't change anything. But, if you need some help, just say so!
George,
I see a problem with the parents of Claes Aerentsz de Oude
As far as I know Willem 'bastaard' de Cuser does not belong there. Are you able to disconnect them?
George,
By looking over the merges I saw a few new merges

Can someone please help me get rid of a wrong set of parents for Phebe Barker
She needs to be unlinked from Unknown Profile

Mary Havens was married to Capt. John Cook
Thanks!
