Maria said: "You can ask a curator to use the text box at the top of a profile without making the profile an MP, to post the "Please don't merge - research/ revisions under way.""

I wasn't aware of that possibility. I thought only MPs had the text box. This would be a great feature. Can you post an example of a non-MP with a text box? I'd like to see one, and it may encourage others to use that feature too.

As I said, David, it's a feature I don't use, so I don't have a ready example. Another curator who was following the conversation suggested it. Let me see if I can create one in my own tree outside the veil of privacy.

James Boone Salter

David, look at this profile. I have added the non-MP box.

Henny -

It doesn't look pretty, but they are reconnected now. There is still a Karen that I'm unable to make public for some reason. Also, there're some data conflicts to resolve -- especially in the name fields.

(Your image for them is beautiful!)

http://www.geni.com/discussions/95591?msg=707403 Can someone try to help Lois with her problem, described in this link please? It's beyond my level of experience.

Alexander you will have to give us a link to Ann Burge's profile so we choose the correct person.,

Thanks for the suggestions, Private User, Erica Howton! The text box above the profile plus the curators' notes sound like the simplest approach. As I had earlier assessed, working closely with curators is key to avoiding the problems I experienced in the past.

In the near future, I hope non-curators can have admin rights to their public profiles that mimic this to a limited degree. It would be helpful. Thanks!

Thanks Maria for the example. Appreciated. I hope others appreciate it too!

Angus - he means the curator AM.

Mona, so glad I could answer your questions. I'm going back to my great grandpa now and take the text box off.

I think if a curator agreed to put such a message up for a profile manager, the curator should also say something about who to contact with questions. We don't want to upset users who contact a curator who knows nothing about the profile and has just put up a courtesy post. If at all possible, when requesting such a text box, try to work with someone familiar with that branch of the tree.

Mona, as a curator, I could not agree more! Working WITH a curator can solve many problems and prevent others.

Alexander: I block people who "Follow" me, as Geni has no other way for us to stop that nonsense ...

Also: Conflicting DATA:
If the button says SEND and not SAVE, just leave these to those who can actually solve them - no need to send extra email about it, they DO show up in all our lists and we get to them when we have the time - many at the time and not one by one.

Thanks!

Private - you will need to sort out whether the first name is Jacob or Johannes - let me know if you need more assistance!

Thanks a bunch June! You're awesome!

Anybody else struggling to load the Home page?

Time is now GMT +2 in South Africa which is 18:11

Nope, loads in just a few seconds.

OK, thanks.

Brendan I was having problems too, it is ok now

Very long load times 3 or more minutes and sometimes times out. My DSL speeds are normal.

Our server response times are looking normal for this time of day. We have a monitoring service that reported unusually long load times from Washington, DC. It probably means there's a networking problem somewhere in the middle. I believe Eldon is not too far from our offices, though, and strangely we're not seeing the long load times.

Mike Stangel FYI: I am not seeing a delay in loading, but my discussion count is off (showing that I have unread discussions when I do not) and I tried to change the filter on what I can see on my Home page and while it changes it while I am looking at it, it is not saving the new settings when I leave the page.

In general, I do experience slower load times in geni nowadays. But cannot pinpoint further. Other websites work fine

earlier today I've got many "out of time" messages

I can't see some discussions in the last 2 days since I get a blank page while entering them

all problems happened with IE 8

:-)

or maybe it was "out of memory"???

:-)

Ofir, I have had the same issue over the past 2 days...I am an IE8 user, as well. Only happens on one or two of the threads I am following.

I believe there is something on that specific page that is causing IE8 to blank out, as all other pages in the thread appear just fine.

Weird...

A small problem here... I am afraid to merge these profiles, because on one, the son is listed as James Samuel Rogers, which is correct, and on the other it is listed James Rogers II. I fear that we are going to have a generational problem if this merge takes place because there seems to be a discrepancy on dates in the line of James Rogers II. Can someone make the corrections before the merge? In case it does not happen after, due to the inability to edit? I am most interested in maintaining the accuracy of the Rogers line, since I am a direct descendant through my great grandmother.
