Hunting spammes down would only work if you have the tools for doing that.

Those tools are not that hard to create but there are just other priorities.

It was just a joke anyway - my sarcastic contempt of spammers in general - unfortunately sarcasm doesn't always translate well in writing, thus I should use more emoticons! ):-/ As long as they can't access and mess up the hard work already completed on here deleting them as they are found should work well enough. They always seem to find a way to get around any roadblocks you put up for them anyway.

I know, - there are some instances that I wish I had a key on my keyboard that would result that the computer blew up in the face of the spammers.

Private User LOL!!!! Well said!

Hello Curators!

I am in need of advice or help, which ever the case may be. I have this profile: Moses Andrew Shepherd, I I want to add his parents. I always perform a search first before adding anyone. I found six different profiles for his father =>
Unknown Profile
Unknown Profile
Unknown Profile
Moses Trader Shepherd
Unknown Profile
Unknown Profile

None of them are public. I have collaboration requests pending with all managers. It looks as though none of them are active or they don't collaborate, but I can't tell for sure.

Can any of these profiles be made public, and if not should I go ahead and make another yet another profile for him, or not?

Thanks!

Leslie - I really appreciate your approach. It is something everybody should do but many dont because it is painful and slow. great work.

Out of the profiles you mentioned, one could be made public

Moses Trader Shepherd

Hope this helps. Feel free to add public profiles to your tree in case you cannot find any public profile to link with.

All done Carole.

I'll continue with a little merging around. We're looking pretty clean there, good work.

I did some looking "around" this profile Anchit found for you:

Moses Trader Shepherd

There were some inactive accounts. I was able to "assume management" and make them "public" profiles, so the tree is a lot more built out and public now.

We already collaborate so you shouldn't have much trouble going from here, but if you do, just post and we'll see what we can do. Obviously further back in time you'll run into less issues ... and now you'll be able to go further back in time better.

I'm kind of psyched actually so let me know how the tree building goes in any event, even if you don't need my help. :)

Thanks so much Anchit Gupta and Erica Howton !

I was able to link Moses Trader Shepherd and he came along with a whole slue of ancestors; way more info than I had on my grandson's peeps. The wife of this profile wasn't the one I needed, but luckily I was able to find the right one who was public. She even came along with another husband.

Now, just a couple of questions: first, I was able to find a daughter for this couple that is a public profile: Priscilla Ann Barney She comes along with the duplicate parents who are not public profiles. If I link her, can the parents be merged? If not, should I link them anyway?

Second, I was able to upload a photo for Moses Trader Shepherd, but I can't do anything else. He has a very interesting history I would like to add and he needs to be added to the project http://www.geni.com/projects/Mormon-Pioneers-1852
Is there anyway one of you guys can do this or fix it so I can?

Thanks for you help!

This profile, (It was in my list to resolve conflict of info.) had a death date of 10 years after the date of birth, and yet there was a child born. She would have been 10 years old when she had the child. I did something that I should not have done perhaps... But it just did not seem right to me. I took the date of death out, entirely, hoping someone might check on both dates of birth and death to see what is what. The death was listed as 1620, the birth as 1610.

Leslie, it looks like one of the managers on each merge is inactive, but of course with the "privacy changes" Geni has made, there is no way to know. They probably should be reported. but only Geni knows and they wont tell.

I know -- I don't know if I should report their trees abandoned or not. Well at any rate I requested collaboration with both of them so we'll see what happens. "sigh"

Mike StangelThe above 2 posts are another example of why we need to know when a person was last online.

Private

- Priscilla Ann Barney has been linked to her public parents and she doesn't carry any private profiles with her
- she, her father Moses Trader Shepherd and her mother Eliza Jane Huff have been added to the Project: http://www.geni.com/projects/Mormon-Pioneers-1852. Project collaborators have full edit rights to profiles in the project so please go forward and build out their "about me's".
- When Moses is complete, please be sure and "show him off" and ask to "make me a Master Profile!" You can do that either through the Project discussions (I'll see it) or this discussion thread for a wider audience:

http://www.geni.com/discussions/83475
for curators: my profile is good enough to be a Master Profile!

Thanks a bunch Erica Howton !

You're awesome!

It's you who are for working on this tree so diligently.

It's also selfish for me. I'm quite sure we'll find our common ancestors "up tree" -- so the more you can connect backwards in time, the sooner I get to get another cousin!

Hey, Erica! You stealing my cousins again? Leslie and I discovered we are double-related. If you find the link between you two, be sure to let me know.

Leslie, I still have the Skipwith-Dale-Carter stuff on my desktop and hope to get back to them soon. Thought it would be this weekend but I forgot about Easter and will be spending time with the in-laws.

The Starbuck / Coffin Family Project is now down to only 4 Merge issues
which are all beyond my abilities... Help Please!

http://www.geni.com/projects/Starbuck-Coffin-Family-Project

kathy, done.

david- i'll take a look at the merges.

david-- looks like a mystery curator already got the merges!

thank you

Here's a profile, which has a source for birth date and death date, my problem is, is it the same man for which the sources are quoted? I just do not believe the man lived to 105. I have nothing about this particular Peleg in my books here. Can any one help me straighten this out?... A Tallman curator, perhaps? I had been merrily merging away, and came upon it, and struck me as off. Here is the profile.
Shoot. I lost the link!!! be back with it as soon as I can find it.

Hey Erica Howton and Private User ~
Erica is my 13th cousin once removed. I don't know how so you are going to have to figure that one out 'new cousin' Erica :-)

ok, I ok'd the conflict info, had already been merged, with another profile which would have made this man older than 105. after I selected the later birth date, I saw the age and I knew there was a problem. The profile is
Lt Peleg Thomas

I do have in my book, here, a Peleg Tallman, b. 1764, d. 1841 m. Eleanor Clarke; he was the son of Peleg, b. 1736, m. Sara Soule, d. c. 1785; and then he was son of Benj Tallman and Elizabeth Gorton

Leslie Ann Smedley is Hatte Blejer's 11th cousin. We are both direct descendants of John Howland's father.

Sally, I would take out the death year but not the date. Then when the year is found just put it in.

Leslie,
Erica is my 16th cousin with no removes -- common ancestors are Carters. You are my 14th cousin once removed. Our common line goes much farther back, through the Thornburgs and Prestons to the Arundels. As we know, you and I are also distantly related to the Carters through Col. John Carter of Corotoman. Once I get his kids cleaned up, that link should be more visible to us.
