I love the idea of having locked and verified profiles in the tree.

I'm going to bookmark this discussion. I know I have some merge issues I am unable to fix on my own.

Thanks for the information.

Erica: Are you supposed to report Abandoned Tree on the profile of
(a) The owner of the Abandoned Tree; or
(b) The profiles themselves that are abandoned; or
(c) Both

Also sometimes when you report something, Geni responds that it has already been reported. Does anyone know - does that mean that your report is ignored? Perhaps you gave more info than the original reporter - is that extra info captured?

Are the reporters of an issue ever informed on resolution? The first reporter only or all reporters?

d) depends on whether your interest is the one profile or all of them

No idea how notifications work. The mechanism is new. You really need to ask Help how they work. I just curate. :<

Actually I'm wrong, it needs to be from a) because you can't actually get a private locked profile to load up. For zombie hunts us lowly and most humble curators go to a "nearby" ID to try and get at the unresting.

You can often get a private locked profile to load up from an adjacent public profile.

HI there,

Hoping for some help to split a tree where a profile has been added by mistake..

I have a Robert Turner (Robert H. Turner) who is married to Lola Dopp.

It also shows him married to Eva ? (Eva Turner) and Molly Norvok (Molly Norvok)

I have tried to correct the mistake by editing the relationship to remove the incorrect relationships - but it will not work because it says that it will split the tree - which is what is required.

Can a Curator help, please?

thanks in anticipation.

Allan Thompson

If you know that there was an incorrect merge then just carry on with the split despite it saying it will split the tree. (if it still doesn't let you then do come back)

I asked: "Also sometimes when you report something, Geni responds that it has already been reported. Does anyone know - does that mean that your report is ignored? Perhaps you gave more info than the original reporter - is that extra info captured?"

The functionality has now changed so that if you try to report something, the system tells you if it has already been reported and does not let you report again - so my question does not arise. You don't get a second chance to add more info to a report.

It means you can't report a discussion post or a profile for more than one reason - eg both spammer and inappropriate language; or claimed historic profile and abandoned tree. You also don't know in which category it was previously reported, or when.

Do reports from PROs get higher priority than from non-PROs? It could create a bottleneck if a non-PRO low priority report has already been made, and this stops a PRO making a later higher priority report.

Terry: you replied to Allan: "If you know that there was an incorrect merge then just carry on with the split despite it saying it will split the tree. (if it still doesn't let you then do come back)"

You can only split the tree if your are PRO or curator. Allan is neither.

Are you familiar with / been using the new Knowledge Base / Help Center?

Many of your points can be made as enhancement requests / bug reports and then cross referenced.

That is really the best place for them as users cannot help you especially us lowly, most humble and definitely NOT Geni support Curators. :<

P.S. I'd really like this discussion to get back "on topic."

Private User

Your Robert Turner is a private profile. Curator scope is for PUBLIC profiles only.

There are other workarounds to solve your issue -- but not by Curators. Our scope is for the public, historic tree.

I do hope to be able to assist you more with your tree building.

Just a note to ALL curators, Thankyou for your answers to the questions posted here. I may not have those problems at this time, but through your thoughtfull responses to other persons, I am learning a lot about Geni. Again, Thanks :)

This is not abandoned. Leave me alone. I do not wish to collaborate until I have checked things out.

@Jeriilyn, sorry, but you have the advantage over us here as we don't know what profile you could be referring to that is 'not abandoned' or who needs to leave you alone or why. If something or someone is bothering you please let us know or contact Geni help but we both would need more specifics.

Dea, thank you! There is a learning curve to Geni that many other programs do not have. The curator team does what it can to help other users along that curve.

Please remove the Parent surname from the Lipsius-Sirkin Family Tree. Help!I have been trying to find some way to get this group who is definitely not related to us disappear from our family tree.
Thank you,
Deanne Sirkin Lipsius

Hi Deanne,
Could you please post the ID number of a profile that you need the surname removed? Also please keep in mind that we curators can't work on private profiles.

I tried, Eldon. I demastered one that was MP'ed by Lucia, but it still wouldn't let me do the merge.
I reMP'ed it again.

Eldon, this is not the first time you've asked about this

they are not the same and just because someone connected the same father for both of them (Argilo) that still doesn't mean they are the same

just leave them as is

Marie-Madeleine Paradis
According to my records, she was married ONLY to Nicolas Roussin in 1667 at the age of 14, gave birth to one child, Marie Anne Roussin on Nov. 25, 1669, and died on November 29, 1669, at the age of 16, so my question is this, how could she be married to a Paul Choret?

Sorry, about the husband, he is either Robert or Pierre Choret, and there seems to be several of him!

Ofir, I canceled the merge. The next time it shows up in the merge center I hope I remember it. They must be brothers and not the same with another wife. Lucia has everything locked so I can't tag the names.

Tami thanks.

Two sisters merged together.
Marie-Madeleine born 12 Jan 1656 married Robert Choret
Madeleine born 3 Aug 1653 married Nicolas Roussin.

I have correct the birth date etc.. of Marie-Madeleine.

Ok, I am pretty good at figuring out puzzles, but this one has me stumped. John le Strange, Baron Strange of Knockyn
Husband of both women below. His mother is also mother of Maud 1251. His Daughter is also a Maud? or Matilda Le Strange

Maud de Montibus

Maud de Walton

Well, the Le Strange name isappropriate...it is very strange. I am VERY confused....Help Please

DLD

Thank you!

Dea,

They're two different people. Don't merge them. Medieval genealogy is really hard! I've given up myself and I'm leaving it to our MEDIEVAL curators to sort out when they have the chance.

Move on to another part of the tree, OK? My best advice. :)

@ Erica Well, That's what I thought. The problem is they both have the same husbend, and the husband has the same mother as one, and I am doing a paper copy and it did NOT compute...sorry, pun intended...I'm bad tonight.

Dea

Just have patience with Geni (and curators) if you would. People who know the Le Strange line (and they do exist) will be along to help out.

I'm just not touching it myself. <<<

If they have a curator, email the curator. Or if near by le Strange profiles have a curator, email that person. It's incredibly common for multiple generations to have the same name and that results in a lot of similar profiles for different people so you have to be very careful. If in doubt, I leave it to those who know that family or I go and do detailed research first before making any decision about a merge.
