David - Going back to your much earlier comment,

"I got to the point where I thought I would need to merge public profiles which a curator could do but I can't so I stopped because I would not be able to complete the job."

I find that is very helpful to have some of that advance stacking done - even if you can't finish the merge - as it can lessen the time I need to spend there and can then tackle an issue for someone else.

Also, those pending/requested merges will show up in more manager and collaborator filters increasing the odds again that someone other than a curator can attend to it.

Thanks for stepping in and doing as much as you did!

Mike - yes something like that would be good, in my opinion.

Dea - I agree your criticism of the language used, and request to keep the language clean. Re your second comment: I do think that it can take time to understand the Geni concept. It is complex.

I also found interesting Bruce's (cleaned up) comment: "It destroys the entire point of doing the whole project if all my "homework" is done for me. Why bother doing the family genealogy if all I have to do is look it up on GENI?"

We live in a new age of available information. I personally love it when someone emails me something that solves a genealogical problem for me, or I find the answer on Geni. Others may feel it's like seeing the answers to the crossword puzzle before they have finished working on the clue. It's difficult in this age to insulate yourself from the facts and to say "No I want to find the answer myself". It's an issue way beyond Geni. Personally I have no problem with others giving me the answers - I still challenge them!

Hatte and Jenna: Thank you for your thanks. Very much appreciated.

Two other reasons why I stepped back here:

1. It can be difficult checking what you are merging when names are similar or the same. As a non-curator I would have renamed the profiles to include the birth year in the profile. Curators can much more elegantly use curator notes.

2. Sometimes you need to merge two profiles because they are the same person (same dates, spouse, children), but one of them is a little wrong on the parents. You may first merge and then secondly sort out the parents. If I left pending stacked merges of that sort there was danger that someone would complete the merges but not sort the parents. Then a few merges later we are in a worse mess than when we started!

But in general yes I have no hesitation in stacking merges for someone else to complete, and I encourage others to do the same.

Skule Børildsen Sokndal, Eie@Skule Its somthing wrong in the tree, and I dont know how to fix it.
In this profile he got the right father, but in the tree he is linked up with one other family wa wel, i'm not able to take away the wrong parents and siblings.
Can anyone help me?

Siv-Inger Fredagsvik Simonsen At this time, I only see one parent, Børild Åvaldsen Evje. Can you clarify the relationship that needs to be deleted or is this already fixed. Thanks

Is there any way to merge two profiles that have diffrent administrators, when one administrator isnt active ?
I have contacted geni multiple times, but they say that I need to contact the other administrator. Which is kinda hard since the other administrator isnt active, or rather dont have any second account according to herself on geni (which geni claims she has).

Unknown Profile
This is the profile that isnt active. The administrator is my sister, and she have no record of this profiles log in information etc.

This is her other profile, that she. And I can both edit etc:
Vibeke Nilsen Bogen

Since alot of our merge requests seem to be going to the first profile mentioned, we have no way of finishing them. Since noone have acces to the other profile.

So, is there a way to merge those two profiles. So that we both, and others in our tree can finish several of our merges.

Private, If the abandoned tree doesn't have any active profiles, you could just report that tree as "abandoned" and it should be deleted by Geni. You can do this by going to a profile in the inactive tree and selecting "More Actions" and select "Report".

Skule Børildsen Sokndal, Eie@skule I guess there was a delay of some kind, it seemes to be right now!!! Thank you!!

Also... there are these 2 profiles that are mixed generations and they are the same person
Deborah Thomas

Sally - Your 4:31 Margaret Fish (Craddock) is merged.

Sally - Now John Fish is done, too!

Sally - Will you message me clarification re. the two Deborahs? I see that they are the same person, but don't understand the your mixed generation reference. Help me help you!

This is the top of a tree I'd like to merge with my own. The manager is someone who uploaded a gedcom in 2007 and hasn't been online since. I sent a message and a collaboration request anyway, but no luck.
Owner is here: Private User
Any help with freeing up her profiles that should be public would be appreciated.
Also here is another person whose one-time gedcom upload is causing me problems: Craig Patrick Kanalley Most of his profiles have been taken over, but not all. There are still some private/zombies.
Thanks for any help that can be provided!

It is only 39 profiles, - does they bring in anything new?

The tree I mentioned? Hard to tell, but probably not. If I haven't put it on geni yet, I have the rest of her tree on my computer ready to go. Is it best to just unmerge and ignore her tree?

That merge was completed when I got to it, but I merged a couple other matches. There is still one more tree match that I see, but it's getting late. Let us know if you need more assistance with it.

How long do you advise waiting for the Manager to respond after sending a question or a merge request? Some of my posts are months old with no response yet.

Dea, Depends on person to person and we've waited 2 years for some people. So Geni is a patience sport sometimes. Also often it means a bit of work if someone goes quiet on you. Look for a relative that was online recently and send a few emails. I've found some people through facebook and got their assistance that way. Things have changed though as people seem to be far more responsive today than years ago...

could someone please disconnect peter as her husband?
Ruth Hairston

Kathy, done

Kathy, I looked up around Ruth profile, there are few wrongly connected profiles. It needs cleaning up, so if you tell me what goes where, I can try to fix it

Could someone please assist with the following merge:

http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000004327442380?from_flash=1&...

Thanks!

Leslie, done

Thanks Jadranka - you rock!

Sally - 1st Baker "orphan" tree merged.

Add him as a sibling somewhere, then remove his parents under the relationships tab.

Dea Lowry

If the person has been inactive for a year it can be reported as an abanded tree. Is that the case here?

Marvin, do you know what happens after you report a tree abandoned? Does Geni turn the profiles over to the reporter, or does the tree get deleted?

@ Marvin C. it has bee 11 months since one of the people I have tried to contact was on...not sure about all of them though. This was a request to Merge
