Brendan I am going to ask someone from Geni about this..

I can express an opinion but I want them to verify it

I think what is occurring is the people who you are collaborating with are doing merges on some of the Public profiles in your Tree and those merges are being attributed to you..

Let us wait and see if I am not leading you down the wrong path..

Leslie - all requests done. Hope it helped.

Janet

Leslie - all requests done. Hope it helped.

Janet

Brendan,

Our logs show you clicking the "Make Public" link on many profiles in the list view, during this time -- it's certainly possible to do that 185 times in half an hour. Do you not recall doing that?

A revision without a user is probably something done by the system.. if I recall, we were updating the "about me" sections during this time, to correct line breaks for the new wiki formatting. If you can give more specifics about the revision you're wondering about, I can investigate further.

Losing ancestors is a little trickier -- it sure sounds like they were split off the tree, but we'd have to know where to look, to find it. Do you know which ancestors have gone missing?

Could someone please assist with the following merge:
http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000006100484260?from_flash=1&...

Thanks!

Mike,

Yes, I do recall doing the 'Make Public' thing which could've been at that time. Thank you for investigating.

As for the revision without a user - the only fields that are populated are the 'about me' and 'Occupation'. All the others are blank as far as I know.

Unfortunately I don't have a clue about which ancestors have gone missing but I only had a quick look. Would I have been able to replace the missing ancestors by replacing my tree with the backup GEDCOM file, not that I have one?

Thanks for your time and effort.

Angus, thanks alot for all your help.

You are welcome Brendan, anytime.

Brendan, even if you had a backup GEDCOM I wouldn't recommend using it to replace the missing ancestors, and that would surely also cause many thousands of duplicate profiles that would need to be dealt with. We could, however, use a backup GEDCOM in a new tree to see where the ancestors are that went missing. :-/

Thanks Janet for helping out with the Cooks! I really appreciate it!

Just a thank you to Angus Wood-Salomon and any one else involved with getting my Spencer line fixed up, and bringing my missing family back. The Spencer line now goes back to pretty much match my original GEDCOM upload to here:
Guiscard, seigneur de Hauteville

However my profiles are not merged with the existing ones, is it possible for that to happen or do I have to ask for management of each generation concerned. Also it still seems like theres a lot of merging to do overall with my Spencer family, for instance, Geni says I'm a 10th cousin once removed (I think) to Princess Diana Spencer, but it shows the relation through one of my grandmothers and I know for a fact we are the same Spencer family. My DNA test would suggest this. :) Thanks again I now love GENI more than ever.

WoW you're back to 850 and it seems valid? Kudos!

I see some "inactive" managers as dups so that's going to take some curator help. I'm getting started right now and perhaps Angus would be kind enough to help out again. Tagging him here:
Angus Wood-Salomon

Have you thought of starting a Spencer Family Project? That will prevent collab / inactivity / dup problems in the future for profiles.

Sally, Edmund Pope and his parent sets are merged.

Sally Thomas

Hi Sally,

Your merges seem all complete to me. Just post back if there are any left to do.

TY Harald!

You want to help out with the Tancreds? They are cool lookin' dudes and dudettes. French, you know. Hialti de Hauteville

I want to get back to Prostitutes and Courtesans original profiles for the Project. Its too delicious.

Erica, thanks yes I have A Spencer family Project here:

http://www.geni.com/projects/Spencer-s-of-Badby-to-the-four-Brother...
Also I wish to ask someone to fix this profile:

Mary Spencer
When I try to do a merge it say " WE ARE HAVE TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES"

Erica, I like your sense of humor. ;)

I completed the merge you requested early today (Cary line) but did not resolve the conflicting data because I wasn't sure about it.

Chet Leo Spencer, I'll work on merging in your de Hautevilles.

Thanks Pam!!

Hi Sally... merged.

Caught: Eldon, 9:39 -- I'm on the case!

Boy, Eldon! You sure can pick 'em - I should have known better.

There's a combination of factors here. Profiles are too recent, and there is a manager with a duplicate inactive account were the profiles haven't been released.

I'll open a work ticket and get back to you privately when I hear back.

Sorry, I tried.

Jena, Thanks for trying, I seem to find more problems. I don't have any idea how many pending merges I have with inactive accounts. Wish there was a way to search

Eldon - Eventually, they will all be identified and all the duplicates merged. Then what will we do with our evenings?

Oh, wait. Build the profiles. Write. Research and add sources. I guess we needn't worry about potential idleness just yet!

Thanks, Mike Stangel

Could someone please assist with the following merge:

Thanks!

Thanks Maria for the Cary merge!

Could someone please assist with this merge:

Thanks!

Hi Leslie: Francis Cary is merged. Not sure anything can be done about Marie Hope... it looks like a profile in someone's private family group. We can help only if it is in the historical tree... (usually early 19th century or older).

Happy New Year all!
