Margareth: What I tried to tell you: If you had started by merging the two Isac's, at least connecting them, you could click in the triangle on the Rose node in the tree and successfully go through the selection of the correct parents without getting the cannot split the tree error since he also would be connected as her brother.

Also: Since the wrong parent set: Isac and his wife was duplicates of her brother and wife without any further connections you could just have merged the Isac father and wife into the her real parents Hartvig and Esther. No profiles would be lost and no bad connections would follow that merge since they were unconnected (and also explaining why you got the cannot split the tree error).

You just had to look another way when merging two profiles which did not match and hurry to resolve the data conflict before anyone complained. The result would be correct anyhow and your problem solved.

Philip, - what I said was just an excuse for the manager who did not make those profile public for you even if you asked. There is a lot of user who don't even see the problem, because when they check the profiles they see that they have full access and really don't understand what you are asking about.

Secondly: You does not get merge requests by email anymore, but have to check your Merge Center.

@Rosa Lester (Glückstadt)

Hi Bjørn,

You are a real trooper for taking the time to explain this, thanks.

What you are suggesting is something I wanted to do, but didn't have the guts, because I thought I'd create a mess. So next time - I'll just do it.

Again, thanks.

Bjørn,
When I request someone to make public and/or deceased a profile that they manage I always provide a link, either to the profile itself, or to a nearby public relative.
The process of finding those links for private historical profiles is tedious at best. There are minor enhancements that Geni could make to Search's filters and sorting, which would make that process easier. I've suggested/requested those enhancements in the Forum, but priorities are obviously elsewhere.

Thanks for making those seven profiles public.

Well, we have our secrets or experience on how to solve such problems.
It was by the way not only seven profiles that was made public ;-)

Could someone please assist with this merge:

Thanks.

Leslie- done.

Thanks Tammy!

GOZLIN III COUNT DU MAINE c860
Can someone with a faster line than we have in SA please help me ratify the iterations of Gozlin III? Every time I try the server times out.

Gozlin III, comte du Maine

There appear to be problematic loops / merges /splits/duplicates being made because of same name ancestors. As far as I can see, and I've included the references on the profiles themselves - it should look like this:

5. GOZLIN III (c860-907/914) m GODEHILDE CAROLINGIAN (c865)

4. Gozlin III was the son of RORICON III (c833-865), who had a sister BILICHILDE ii (832-858)

3. Roricon III & Bilichilde ii's parents were RORICON II (c808-858) m BILICHILDE i (c810)

2. Roricon II's parents were RORICON I (c770) m ROTRUDE CAROLINGIAN (c775 -6/6/1810)

1. Roricon I's parent was GOSLIN I (c740)

2. Goslin I's other son ie, Roricon I's brother was GOSLIN II (c775-826) m ADELTRUDE CAROLINGIAN (c790)

3. Goslin II and Adeltrude had a son: DONALD, Coutnof Melun (c810-<860)

Note:
a. The Roricons I to III seem to get mixed because the Bilichilde mother and daughter (wife & sister) get conflated.
b. The Gozlins I to III seem to get conflated because Gozlin III is not in the direct line from Gozlin II, but comes through the 3 Roricons. (Also Roricon II has a brother Goslin (804) who doesn't have a number - possibly dying young?)
c. Adeltrude Carolingian and Rotrude Carolingian appear to become conflated, and I'm still unsure that the data I am using here is the correct version of that.

Many thanks if you can help!

will try...

It's over to you now, please let me know if you need something else fixed

Hi Jadranka. That was so efficient! Thank you so much; you're a star! I will go and do the tidying up.

Philip, I am not sure if you asking to make these profiles public? I need to check that with the manager of these profiles

Sharon,
Your info was very useful, the link provided on the profile page is a French web site that was not that easy to follow. Maybe you can enter your information on each individual profile and then we should make them Master profiles to protect them from getting tangled again

Philip, I have contacted the manage of these profiles

http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000006444065845?idx=0

It's a merge on Elizabeth de Grey, Lady Ravensworth

Clicking it in the merge centre causes technical difficulty.

David your merge on Elizabeth Marmion should be fixed now.

Thanks Mike. There is another merge there which a curator can probably complete.

Hi Jadranka - Re Goslin III

I will go and upload the reference site details on each one. I tend to trust the French data more because it seems to me to be closer to the source, but, I agree, errors of translation are far easier that way, and it isn't always the case that that reference is the most accurate.

I think you're right - the master profile idea is the answer. People also tend to have more respect /care when dealing with those profiles and deciding what to merge, or what information to defer to when updating. So it's worthwhile getting it right then.

How do we do the MP thing? Or is that one of the magic wands they've given curators - and you can do it with a 'wave'? (Fantastic!)

The one profile that seems to me to be sufficiently contested to hold off on making an MP is the Adeltrude / Rotrude one. I'm trying to remember if I've seen Bjorn or Anne working around the Charlemagne lines?, but they might have input that would help sort that one out.

ARE THERE ANY CURATORS WORKING IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN PROGENITORS AREA?
These are the 1650> VOC employees, and the 1688> French Huguenots, and the British 1820 Settlers, and the 1650> Angolan and Eastern slaves who became the ancestors of the European population in SA. It would also include the ancestors of the present day Zulu / Xhosa / Sotho lines in SA - but I don't think they are being entered yet.
WE ARE INCREASINGLY IN NEED OF PROFILES BEING TAKEN CARE OF ON THESE LINES. Advice?

Edwatd, your second profile, Catharina dr Bero has different set of parents - which ones are correct?

Philip please check the status of the profiles you wanted public, as I have fixed some, and for others have contacted profile managers

Sharon,
send me a link for profiles you would like to make Master, and also a link to SA profiles that need cleaning up

Hi Jadranka
Thankyou, thankyou thankyou ;-) I'll send you the possible MP links in my next message.

The SA profiles don't need cleaning up - I've done that (my monthly task ;-<) - they just need watching as they get easily re-tangled. (The SA progenitors tended to 'inbreed ;->' between a couple of families who arrived on the boats together, and then they named their kids after their parents and siblings - producing same-name cousins, aunts, grandchildren - who all tempt people to merge them!)- so I'm cleaning up the same tree tangle on a monthly basis!

What we are looking for is a way to find a curator who has family links to those lines to start to look after them more permanently than just fixing them constantly. We're not sure how to go about doing that; nevermind the fact that it's a huge job. Any suggestions?

I have to go and buy Christmas Cake ingredients now, so will put those profiles on tonight. Thank you again for all your help.

@Eldon

think i got them all for you :-)

Martin:
Wow that was quick, Thanks. He was in my merge center and is now done

You curators that are using wiki. I am really confused about wiki, I cannot make heads or tails out of it. Just now i got this email which really confused me... I know it has to do with geni. I am going to post the email here... can someone email me and please tell me what this is all about?
