WoW...

Hello Cousins,

Can anyone tell me, what happened to Victar? (I hope all is well, in his World.)
Private User

Is he on vacation or has he left Geni? I can not seem to be able to follow him or leave a comment on his profile. (As if I had been blocked, but I never had a conflict of opinion or any other sort with Victar, so I'm confused/concerned.)
You see, he curated my great grandfather for the politicos de Puerto Rico project... and I am not able to complete a merge with my 2nd cousin, Yenira, to connect our trees, without him, I think. We've tried... but just have a double (x) on his profile, now, but it's not merged. My cousin Yenira said, she accepted my merge request... but nothing, nil, nada is happening.

It would be great if anyone knows anything.
Thank you, for your time and care.

He will see your shout out

Oh, ok! I just Hope he/his Family is ok. I think, I recall something about his Dad not being all that well... :-(
Thank you, for your response, Angus, Cuz! ;-)

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for this help, please tell me if I need to do something else instead.

I have just been informed that a cousin of mine passed away last year.

I am his manager, but it looks to me like he joined in 2010, but never took over managing his own profile - I suppose that means he never made a password?

In any event, I can not change his status to deceased - can someone do that for me?

He is Ben-Zion Aronson <Prof Ben-Zion Aronson>, and he passed away about July, 2013.

Thanks so much in advance,
Mark Melmed

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your cousin and wish you all Long Life.

A report has been submitted to customer service that Prof Ben-Zion Aronson
is now deceased. The profile will be marked accordingly (may take a couple of days).

I thought that reporting a post was supposed to hide that post until Admin reviewed it?
Does not seem to be the case at the moment, as i have just reported two posts and the both seem to be still visible.

hi martin again but for this one i gona be beaten its sure...

i came across those profile and notice the same picture for diferent woman

Lucy Hanks
Nancy Lincoln

also i would like to disconect all the N.N

(unknown Virginia farmer, possibly Tanner)

got a master profile...why?

NN Tanner

if in time for close family they find records paper ...a solid proof then they can be on geni.

martin

re: Nancy & her mother's profile photos -- thanks for pointing that out, Martin. I removed the image from Lucy.

The reason for the MP on the unknown/speculative partners of Lucy are so that merges do not 'over-write' the "unknown" or speculative status of her partners. Without having an actual Geni profile -- and one that is protected by the MP status -- then any merge (or Pro edit) could change that name to fit their favorite speculation or guess.

This is also a fairly common Geni technique to use when the parents of a profile are actually proven to NOT be some 'commonly reported' parents -- to create MP'd "unknown" parents so that future merges won't re-add the known-incorrect parents to the profile.

non sens to me Mr Cornett but if a conexion can be made from one side parent with paper records am fine

but now we have to agree on the acuracy of each profile ,it mean we can delete those N.N .witout real documentation it cant find place on geni.

we have to prevent false genealogy. its is sure they got a name a story but for now its a blank sheet..plz remove those N.N its going nowhere or its a made up genealogy for me

(we gona find them all :) geni computer work alot and all the reshearcher work toghetert to finds records from diferent country it is sure a trace is somwhere but it dont need a blank mp.

unknown/speculative partner ...

let read this .. have found that 7th grand father married a native woman her father was chief chaman but i dont have proof of the parentage of the chief exept few detail.so i gona put on geni N .N CHIEF N.N wife chief ? and sister N.N bro N.N
we all know native ppl where here is that a sufisent proof? na.not into my book it need real solide paper .a book with extended text a rock solide (tangible) evidence

Etienne Pigarouisnunepiresi (Sorcier chaman)
parent? N.N ? na

but hes got a bio.

Martin: The documentation exists as to:

(a) The father existed ... because a child (e.g. Nancy Hanks) was born.
(b) The father is NOT one of the known spouses of Lucy Hanks.
(c) It is known where Lucy was living at the time.

In the case of Lucy Hanks, there have been now-discounted attempts to link her (and thus provide a link to President Lincoln) to other families. So, in this situation, it seems entirely reasonable to use a 'mechanism' to prevent incorrect connections.

Why might one use N.N. as a parental profile?

One example I can think of is when you have some reasonable evidence (family lore, DNA testing, ...) which indicates you have some information about the person (such as country of birth, location of burial, ethnic background, etc.) -- but no known (or remembered) name. I would be in a Geni profile to capture that information which *is* known to a reasonable degree.

Another example: I've known instances where a person remembered their grandparents' names, and remembered the names of their cousins (children of their aunts & uncles), but could not remember the names of some of the cousins' parents (i.e.: some of those aunts & uncles -- or their spouses' names). Of course one should enter a Geni profile for them, even if one doesn't know their actual names, so that the relationships can be shown.

Another way to phrase what Dan is saying is -

"just because we don't know their name doesn't mean they didn't exist."

This actually is an important issue in my "own" tree.

In my lines, historical records may not have the names of women. Anywhere. There are no records to be found. Or if there was once a scant piece of paper (by no means certain given when and where they lived), it's long gone. But surely they lived, had children, and should be remembered.

A name is just a convenient label.

i call this false genealogy

New question here:

I was going through my guestbook and cleaning things up. But on one message from a user I accidently clicked on Spam instead of Delete. I realized my mistake as soon as I did it, but there is apparently no way to undo an erroneous spam report. Does anyone happen to know what (if any) actions Geni takes when you click on Spam in your guestbook messages?

If they get several, then they investigate; I'm not sure about a single 'spam' report. If it *is* erroneous, then that is usually quite apparent.

I goit a message that there was a duplicate of Shmuel Möller today but there was nothing to merge but instead I found his grandson Yaakov Rosenberg

Private
and his sister Miryam Shamir nee Rosenberg to merge because one of the duplicates is private
http://www.geni.com/profile/edit_basics/6000000013014382306
I remember it's years ago I wrote to Yaakov because I used to know his mother and his aunt.

Could you please merge Yaakow and his sister?

Ingrid Meissner - merged them all.
They are relatives of mine, somehow.

Rafi and Ingrid -

Relatives of mine too, through my German side.

Please assist! Need Susannah Maria b. Skinner (Gage) "unstuck". She seems to be the only wife of Henry Gage, 3rd Viscount.

I think the branches were mixed up by a generation & I did not solve the problem.

Thank you.

Dear Curators and Mike Stangel,
The previous "sticking" problem is still occuring. See:
Evelena Babcock Stevens

Also, I noticed Alexander Henry Stevens had to be updated again. The revisions tab tells the story. As noted before this seems to occur when one is selecting two named parents over a named parent and and unknown in the select parents part of a merge.
Thanks,
Jessie Germab
