Will you please undo the merge i did an hour ago.
I was clearing up the list on my profile about matches on the Geni tree.
I'm not the manager. So don't know why my request ends up to be a merge.
The profile was ten days old and got a whole family.
The manager of both profiles are the same.
Please undo the merge.
Private, I'm sorry to hear that. It could be due to having common names in your tree, incomplete fields, or the way you input data. Would you mind sharing an example? Hopefully we can figure out a way to make them more useful for you. I know that for me, I'd say it's about an 85% or so accuracy rate.
Also, when you find bad suggestions, be sure to click the option to reject the merge. If you just ignore them, someone else *could* approve the merge. Though if it helps reassure you, we have ways to address bad merges when they happen, so if one ever happens, just let a curator know and we'll be happy to help. :)
Private User I also get these kind of profile matches. I have examples where there is only a partial name match, the parents are different, the birth and death dates are different and the partners are different. There also mentioning of other tree matches, but those are not shown for a non paying member, So those cannot be rejected.
In the Netherlands there was a custom when a child died young, to give the next child with the same sex the same name. I get record matches for all of these. They should be avoided when looking at the profile history. They are imputed by the same person on the same day and they have. birth dates that do not match.
The match function is valuable, but wildly inaccurate. My experience is that about 85% of what I get as matches are not. In addition, the numbers on the blue match buttons are sometimes ludicrous. This morning one showed 59 matches. When clicked it displayed 1. That was a relief! I know it is difficult to get this stuff right and I don't envy the programmers working on this. A system like that used for the LDS would help, but that would require a huge change. Often the slightest difference in spelling misses the match, but adjusting for that only results in more inaccuracy, in terms of possible matches displayed.
99.9 pct of suggested treematches here are incorrect.
I have rejected the ones where I'm the manager. But the problem is the ones where other users are managers.
Wonder why they are included in my list? So I tried yesterday to get rid of them before the new private politic is carried out.
- And it was such one which I requested to merge. But unfortunately it was merged without asking the manager.
There is NO requirement that mergers be approved by a manager. If it says "approve merge" and you say "Yes", then the merge goes thru, no other approval required. If it says "request merge" then it must be approved by someone on the "other side" - but not necessarily a manager of either of the profilePr
Lois is correct. The "other side" approval can be the manager, a collaborator (public profiles), and / or family group member (private profiles). Curators can complete profile merges "on behalf of." For public profiles, any that are "both" in the world family tree; for private profiles, both in the world family tree and with approval indicated by a legitimate interest (manager, family group member ...) through a requested merge.
Please also note there is a "difference" between "matches" (blue) and merge requests.
Frankly I ignore most computer generated matches unless I am consciously building out that tree area "to source."
Merges however appear in the merge center, are requested by Geni members, and are (usually) very good. Mistakes happen of course but they can "always" be fixed, one way or another.
The more complete the profiles the better a chance that the merge is not only good, it's "very good" because both sides coming together extend both trees.
The matches in the merge center are NOT very good. Not for the Danish tree.
I requested a merge - but Geni finished the merge. And it was the problem.
I do not care about the MyHeritage matches. I'm concentrating on the geni tree.
Erica - if you ignore computer generated matches in the Geni tree, your list must be very long.
I had profiles with +99 matches - no one was a match.
You'll be able to watch such one in my merge center with another Danish manager. I keep my fingers away from it. Because if the manager has entered thousands and thousands of profiles she must take her time to look at her computergenerated matches as well.
Dear Curators,
Could someone please resolve the conflicting data on this, http://www.geni.com/merge/resolve/6000000006769832344 ? All the fields are locked.
Thanks,
Jessie German
Dear Curators,
Are these "zombies"? If so can anything be done to complete the merges?

Thanks,

Are you familiar with Phebe Haskins (Lincoln) ?
Looking at a Smart Match from My Heritage it shows her mother as Joanna Lincoln (Holmes).
Geni shows her mother as Marcey Lincoln, just curious.
Dear Angus,
Tsk, tsk, tsk! You found one from my early days here, before I understood how important documentation is! Ancestry lists a Mary Stephens, which may be where Marcey comes from, http://records.ancestry.com/phebe_lincoln_records.ashx?pid=136361046 , but no real clue! Sorry, I have no time to dig on this as I am off to help with my daughter's wedding. Maybe try the mgr. of Marcey? It was added in 2014.
Thanks,
Jessie German
