Geni is running into this A LOT - had the same problem just yesterday, and a couple of times before that. Obviously a policy is needed to deal with abandoned isolated trees w/o managers - maybe find a way to drop them in the Collaboration Pool, or "put in a request to Customer Service if you want to be manager", or (worst case) just delete them so they don't frustrate everybody.
Great suggestions but they won't necessarily reach the right eyes on this thread.
May I remind that anyone can open a "feature" / "enhancement" request through the "help" platform? The link at the bottom of every Geni page > feature requests > suggest an idea button
Or this link

Richard (Rick) Gary Simon,
This small abandoned isolated tree which has the private profile of Eduard Ezra Ehrenwerth in it is made up of just 84 profiles. It appears that all 84 profiles are private. If you were in Private User's 'Geni family' in this isolated tree, you could ask Geni to let you 'inherit' it.
CC'ed the discussion to Feature Requests. Found out there are a lot of requests to "do something!" about abandoned isolated trees, and no indication that Geni ever intends to take ANY action.
Most "helpful" suggestion was to duplicate the wanted profile(s) onto the Big Tree and just ignore the isolated one. (I spent a *whole evening* doing that, just a day or two ago! Wouldn't have bothered, if it didn't affect my "lower Delmarva" area of interest.)
I have waited (and I am NOT a patient person) for 3 years for some of my 'manager requests'......went into a few and found that the managers of small numbers don't even register on the 'activity' page......and there is no chance they are active.....they have even been reported.....with nothing happening....
There WAS a change that happened (an enhancement) that allowed ANY manager of a multi-managed profile to approve........when previously it had to be the primary manager.....so I could discount some of my requests......and re-request (and get added).....but then I still had to delete the useless request......long and arduous work.
On all those where I did get in, because there were other managers, the original manager is still listed.
.
Fay Elizabeth Dyer Private User that is par for the course for geni I have looked at the features list.. support for adopted parents for example is one feature that geni has given up on.. been allmost 3 years.. I know things don't happen overnight but...
Private this is not a valid comparison. There has in fact berm continuing feedback from Geni regarding adoption and programmatically it is not an easy problem to solve.
Stand a lone / unconnected / abandoned trees, which is the issue Rick Simon raised, are in a different programmatic category, and up voting the feature request on the help platform could indeed help. But if that technology and business rules in the software don't allow it, then it's not allowed.
Feedback from Geni is best done by raising tickets. We are entitled to that service from our PRO membership.
Use the service.
With small abandoned Trees having no manager, no claimed profile within the whole Tree - not clear to me whether the more ethical action is to delete the profiles or let someone else claim/inherit them.
I think a good argument could be made that the more ethical action is to delete them -- but by letting them just stay as they are now, you at least get some info from them.
Perhaps try to convince yourself to enjoy your glass half-full? (ie not having the profiles deleted, all the info including names and relationships disappeared)
I hope someone can help me with my 4th great aunt's profile... I merged her profile and now she has 2 husbands (the same man, but from both profiles!)
I was going to remove the incomplete one, but it says that it will split the tree & I am hesitant to do this. Her profile is @ Elizabeth Perkins Collins (Elizabeth (Perkins) Collins)
The John Collins that I want to keep is the one with the wedding info... married in 1809 in South Kingston, RI.
Thanks,
Pat
Patricia Ann Scoggin, it's just a matter of completing the merges in the surrounding areas of the tree- something that is always necessary when merging profiles. I just did this for you.
In the future, if you see any little yellow triangles in the lower left hand corner of a profile when in Tree View, that means there are probably duplicates due to incomplete merges there.
Thanks David. She is not in my direct line, but I had found a lot of info including a pix for her & her husband & wanted to add it to their profiles. I found 3 Find a Grave sites for she & her husband & sent a message to the manager of the one with the most info. Hope they can merge them so there is only one site. Oh, well, that is their headache.
Again, thanks,
Have a great day,
Pat

I hope someone can help me. I was trying to correct an error in my tree whereby someone (Unknown Profile) was listed as his wife's father and husband. I fixed it for his wife, but his wife's brother (Private User) is now a separate tree still listing him as the father. I have created a placeholder to merge him back into the tree (and hopefully let me correct his listed parents): Unknown Profile. Can someone accept the merge and fix his parents? His proper parents should be Mort and Nettie.
Thanks!
Maxwell Charles Preston I think you got it sorted - the parents / siblings look as described. Please let us know of I'm missing something.
Sorry, I probably wasn't clear enough. This Leslie (Private User) is the same as this Leslie (Unknown Profile). His parents should be Mort (Mort Wolin) and Nettie (Nettie (Nechama) Wolin). I accidentally disconnected the first Leslie profile from my tree in trying to fix the relationships, so I only added the second Leslie profile to facilitate a merge.
Thanks so much! I just noticed one other strange thing with the tree. This profile for Eliezer (Unknown Profile) should be merged with this profile for Eliezer (Eliezer Moshe Eidlitz). They used to be cross-linked in some weird way that I think was the result of him previously also being listed as his wife's father. Anyway, it again involves a claimed profile, so I think I need a curator's help to fix it.
Thanks!
