Please help me. I made a boo boo :-(
I need to have unknown Hamilton removed as a spouse for John Hamilton, Sr
thanks!
I went into Relationships in the John Hamilton, Sr profile and removed unknown Hamilton and saved. It's that simple.
Thanks Hatte Rubenstein Blejer
I tried to do that, but it wouldn't let me. I got the ole "split the tree" warning.
Private User it looks Iike the member was a 3 day wonder with an unconnected tree. He would need to 1) collaborate 2) approve the merge requests 3) log back on to see those Geni requests.
Your options are
A) live with the blue "pending" check box
B) reject the merge request so it is cancelled & hidden
Considering that it was an isolated, disconnected tree fragment, the only point in adding it would be if we were going to get any cooperation from the manager. We're not, and Geni takes its own sweet time coming up with solutions.
I will be checking for this problem in future, and adding it to a short-list of conditions under which I won't start a merge in the first place.
The biggest problem is that canceling pending merges does much more than simply disconnecting them. It also specifically marks that pair as "not a match"- meaning the match can never be found again, even if the hit-and-run user eventually returns.
Besides, from my experience a profile manager not being active in over a year is absolutely no indicator that the profiles will never be merged. "Never" is a mighty long time.
I wouldn't say the match(es) can "never" be found again - the information sometimes resurfaces if significant changes are made to one of the profiles. It is also always possible to "force" a merge if you KNOW it's right. (But you have to know both profiles and have them active in your "Recents".)
Let me know when Geni comes up with a way to force completion of merges when a disconnected tree has been abandoned, and I'll reconsider.
PS: Do you mind if we DON'T drag private Genimail conversations into public Discussions? That tends to REALLY annoy me.
The todd donaldson case illustrates a problem with disconnected and abandoned trees - they *can't* be connected to the World Tree unless the original manager has already done so.
He had not done so, and in fact seems to have abandoned his tree *and* Geni membership at the exact point where this would have become possible.
Since he is the *only* person who can do *anything* with his disconnected tree, IMHO there was absolutely no point in trying to request a merge in the first place and no reason not to disconnect and let it drift away. I'm researching that branch myself via the Censuses, FamilySearch, and, where applicable, Findagrave, and have already hit several layers of pay dirt.
Wesley Hanson, you grandmother's profile is managed by two other people besides yourself, and the person who is making these edits is one of them.
Are the edits this person is making incorrect?
@Paula Brill Adelman .....My family tree was 'invaded' by my ex-husbands wife, Jane Baron Pinsky, because she originally wrote she was the mother of my children. My sons were also listed as her children and her children's full brothers. I am the proud mother of my two sons but now I am getting merges for people from her family trees almost daily. I asked her to take my sons off over 2 years ago when I noticed what she did. She said she removed them over a year ago. She then added a new family tree in November of 2013 where I see she (as Manager) put back one of my sons as her son. She now says she fixed everything and yet I am still getting her tree matches and merges every day. Her name is Jane Baron Pinsky and mine is Paula Brill Adelman. How can we stop this from continuing since she told me she fixed all the mistakes (not sure this is done yet on all tress of hers). My children (Leon and David Adelman) are also aware of this and not happy about all the mess and want an end to it too. Since I am a Geni Basic I can not reach anyone to fix this but I have been a loyal member for years and have gotten many people hooked on your site. Thank you for taking care of this.
groetjes,
Dimitri
Any idea why at http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000024503654711 Jennie's husband Joseph shows twice. while at http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000024503680776 Jennie shows twice.
It eludes me why the x2 green circle is appearing in these cases.
Thanks
Pls help resolving the data conflict:

For Uri-Moshe Wygodny.
The conflicting data (Vigodny) is wrong and was entered by an account that no longer exist (Gabi Schreier-Barak, who since opened a new account)
As a Pro, can't you edit her profile?
You may also want to copy and paste her URL to Geni mgmt with a request to be added as co-manager of her her profiles, explaining the circumstances.
(I would say take over her profiles, but that doesn't seem to get anyone anywhere; hence the alternate suggestion).
David Prins: There was actually a duplicate marriage relationship between Jennie & Joseph ... not an exact duplicate, because the children were "attached" to only one of the relationships.
That *was* an interesting case; I hadn't seen such before. I had to be careful to keep track of the children in case I deleted the wrong marriage relationship (there wasn't any indication on the Relationship Tab which one had the 'children attached').
Clearly this lady results from an incorrect merger. Has 19th century parents and 16th century husband and children. Her own dates are given as 1900 to 1600 which is a nonsense (and of course Tennessee, where she died, didn't exist in 1600). Can she/they be unmerged, and is it possible to retrieve the original pre-merge structure?
Getting a headache, I'd be grateful for some expert curator input!
