David: I reported again with an explanation note ... now we wait.

Private User - Is it correct now?

There are still two brothers Salomon, though one looks like he may have died young -- perhaps the 2nd was named after the first (allowing for a 1-year variation of death & birth dates).

Thank you Dan. Without wanting to divert this important thread onto another topic - I might just refer to http://help.geni.com/entries/507614-Reporting-of-profiles regarding some of the inadequacies of the reporting function. Particularly point 3.

If curators can re-report - that is good news.

Further discussion of reporting should go in a different thread - not here.

how can i become a curator" i have spanish lines" texas, new spain" wiling to share my info but respectfully

Well after what I`ve heard you have to be a committed member of the geni community, someone (users/curators) has to recognize you and recommend you to the geni staff. To be a curator is not only a job or joy, you need certain skills in collaboration, computer or genealogy/history that geni needs. I don't think that we can nominate ourselves, but if I had been asked I wouldn't say no ;)

At the present time, Geni is not adding any new curators.

Private User you don't need to be a curator to share your information. Curators all started out simply as keen geni users willing to share and collaborate.

If you have profiles that you think would make good Master Profiles then just ask a curator to have a look.

Good Day All..
I am in need of help regarding line nn Richardson

It was merged (unbeknownst to me) into my tree. I contacted the profile manager See her response below:

"You will have to contact a curator, there are a bunch of private profiles mixed up in there and I don't know how to deal with them. As for that profile, I have no memory of it."

At any rate, that branch is a mess and I have no clue what to do :o/ I have had this issue with smaller randomly merged trees that lack any type of source etc. I have simply changed "name" to "no name" and deleted all other profile info.

This line is simply way to big and messed up. I know curators are volunteers and I (and many others) are grateful for your dedication to keeping our trees clean.Thank you much! Laura

Hi Laura

The core problem might be that there is what is called a claimed historic profile here: John Richardson, Sr.

He's a Geni member (well, abandoned tree) born in 1714! With an email address !!

I'm going to disconnect him & see if that opens the tree up. It's been reported already to Geni Customer Support.

Private User You may have unwittingly compounded the problems by changing "name" to "no name" and deleted all other profile info. Those need to be restored from the revisions tab

Thank you Eldon, I agree. It is difficult to correct "a horse with no name." :)

Thank you for your quick response and suggestion not to "no name" bad profiles. I did not do that to the Richardson line that somehow got merged. I am currently working to correct those "no name" branches. The Richardson branch is FAR too big and convoluted to do anything but ask for assistance in getting it fixed.

How do the trees get merged without me knowing until its done? Particularly and most curiously, the "abandoned" ones?

Any PRO can merge any public profiles, particularly if they match, and particularly important Colonial American ancestors to many.

I've already made progress by disconnecting the "profile gone wrong" (mistakes happen) & have just learned of a new line for me, and my own tree has been enriched as a result.

this no name thing we don't know if it was done to be spitefull or just because they didn't have a clue who the person was if so a curator note with parents uknown or child unknown in the descrpition field instead of nn or no name would have been a better way to go about it.. that and private profiles are two of my biggest pet peeves on here.

I have a note from my gg grandfather that was written in German. In 1857.

I would be so appreciative if someone would help me read it. Here is the link.

Thanks so much, Faustine

Michael,

I always leave a field blank or put a question mark in it when I don't know a name. Is that acceptable? I hate it when they put Mrs. with the husband's name in the field, or her first name with her married name. Which way is the best way to fill in the field of an unknown person?

Sylvia M. Hertel

(No Name) The best thing to do is enter what you have. If you have no first name, I use FNU. If you have a married name it goes in the last name field, birth name in the birth name field. If you have nothing, don't enter anything.

(No Name) I pretty much do the same thing if i have to create profliles like that. Eldon Lester Clark's idea works as well

Sylvia

Let me take the question of wife with unknown parents.

In America under English common law, she acquired her husband's surname at event: marriage. So that is her last name and should be filled in.

If her birth surname is not known, write in unknown or leave blank.

Other languages and cultures have different naming conventions of course.

For a first name that is unknown, it's better to fill in a value. I prefer "unknown" or "unknown wife of Adam". It helps in merges.

NN, nn, FNU, MNU, etc are of course acceptable conventions but personally I find them a learning obstacle to those newer to genealogy, and believe avoiding abbreviations & acronyms is always a good practice.

Faustine Darsey after I finish up my Colcannon meal.. I will see if i can enlarge it and find a translatior app for you and to every one else Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Daoibh!

Could someone please remove Ralph 'Stonemason' Allen, Jr, of Sandwich and Esther Bull as parents of Joseph Allen

Thanks!

Private. Thanks Michael. If you go to "Media" and double click on the photo it will enlarge. If it isn't big enough, let me know. I just scanned it to a photo in my computer. Thanks again.

Private done, i will try & re position the other Ralph of NOT Katherine Starkes ...

Please bring this up in the following project:
http://www.geni.com/projects/Allen-Family/1796

I'll add you to the project, if you are not a member. We discuss spouses, parents, and offspring there and a number of the members are very knowledgeable. These early Allen profiles are mostly all curated too, so best to approach the curator. Thank you.

Okay, I'm comfortable now since Erica Howton knows the Allen family :)
