Just a general question in an attempt to help keep some of my messy tree away from folks until it is verified and cleaned up...

Is there a way to keep my tree private or just for my family, not for public consumption until I have it all verified??

I have a family genealogy book I am finding is VERY inaccurate that I plugged most of 900 pages of info in here over the summer and am just beginning to verify. I have begun to get emails from angry people because of the inaccuracies and would like to just keep this all to family until it's VERIFIED... as its going to take a LONG time to verify 1500 people!!

No, a public profile is a public profile ...even if it's a work in progress.

BUT the Project tool is the very best way I know how to get the line straight and permanently documented. It's really effective.

Erica - I'll go through the Gallups and figure out exactly what's amiss, if I can. And lay it out for you.

Thankfully Tammy is helping with the Johnsons because they had some seriously odd stuff happening.

I think that curators are absolutely called for with the historical figures because the merges cause enormous headaches. There seems to be a lot of conflation of multiple profiles from different generations just because they have the same given name and untangling that is horrible.

Please merge. This is one of those merges requested of a family member and not responded to in a timely manner.

I am new to projects and have four projects now. There's a very nice template for projects that I am using, which I think Erica created and Shmuel made available. The curators are very helpful, you should get one or two on your project :)

I did one of the merges stacked for Katarina.
One of the stacked Katarinas that I left has a son called Erik ERIKSSON Lindberg, which sounds as wrong as it can be. Especially as Katarina doesn't have a spouse named Erik.

I hadn't seen that one attached as a son to one of them. Obviously wrong.

Anna-Lena Kerstin Karlsson entered the profile originally, but she appears to have left Geni. She also entered Unknown Profile which I think Erik Eriksson Lindberg should be merged with and detached from it's current spot in the tree.

@Philip, I detached Erik Eriksson Lindberg and merged him with his alter ego as you described.

@Yigal In the book Falconer of Halkerton (http://www.amazon.com/Falconer-Halkerton-genealogy-Scottish-includi...), It says that all of his children were actually born by Margaret Molleson. I can scan the pages if you'd like.

In fact, it makes note of Margaret's sister marrying Robert Barclay. They somehow got mixed up. He never married Christian.

I have a section of my tree that has inadvertently been input twice... They are the same people on separate branches of the tree, so I cannot resolve duplicates in the typical way by dragging and dropping on top of each other as they don't appear on top of each other in the tree...

How can I delete the spares??

And is it possible to get the help of a curator on my project?

Michelle, You've got Reynolds? I am deep in a Reynolds family Project, so this is very interesting.

I can't do a thing with the links you gave because they are private profiles. Curators can only work with public profiles. If they have passed on, can you make them public? If they are living, they should remain private.

Well, I see you are related... 16th cousin once removed. Maybe we have relatives in common here?? This happens to be the tree I'm trying to clean up, verify and fix!

Erica... As I look at these profiles and pay closer attention, I haven't verified yet if they are deceased... so I better leave them private. I was looking at them too quickly earlier and seeing a wrong year, thinking they were by age alone bound to be gone.
