re: family group

Even though the Geni default is to define your "Family Group" to be 4th cousins (with the implicit 4 grand-parents), you can restrict your "Family Group" to be less than that -- and it does restrict those "outside" that scope you define from "seeing" inside that 'boundary'.

See how at your Family Groups under your Account Settings (under your name in the upper right corner): here: http://www.geni.com/account_settings/family

Currators,

Can someone please take a look at this seeming private profile born c 1500:

Ieuan Llwyd ap Dafydd

Thank you, Jonathan

claimed historical fake profile, reported!

I know that already, Dan Cornett.
But it's not to restrict the numbers of members in a Family Group I'm looking for. On the contrary.
But a way to differentiate the possibilities for members of a Family Group to watch more private images etc.
Facebook is able to differentiate among your "friends".
And Facebook friends ought to equal a familygroup on Geni - in my opinion.

Hi Private User,

Samuel Presser is now the son of Jacob Simon Presser and Carolina Salomon Presser (Zwaab)

I'm writing about the husband of Janneke Beekman
(18th century).
I would like to ask why her husband should remain "private"... it being so long ago?
How can a tree be developed with such a road block?
Thanks.

MM van Beuren

Private User,
Janneke's husband James was accidentally added as a living person. Jadra switched him to deceased for you.

From Laura Jean Barlow

"I request assistance in cutting loose an erroneous merge. On February 24, Mary Susan Newton merged her profiles for John Barlow Jr and Thomas Barlow with my profiles for people of the same names. I believe her merge was incorrect because my John Barlow Jr was born c. 1768, father of Joseph born c. 1805 and son of John Barlow Sr, born c. 1740 in Virginia. This data came from the book "Bunches of Barlows". Ms. Newton's John Barlow Jr was born 1600-1660. My Barlow line has not yet been tracked back out of the US as far as I have been able to determine. I sent a message to Ms.Newton regarding this merge but I have received no response. Thank you for your help."

(I directed her to the wrong "Attention Curators..." thread accidentally.)

Hi Laura

Just to verify I'm oriented to the right family, is this the one needing straightening up?

Rev. John Finley Barlow, Sr.

Laura Jean Barlow - if you could provide links to the profiles that need to be un-merged, a curator can make a request to Geni staff to try an experimental 'un-merge' procedure.

Dan - I don't think this is an "unmerge" - I think this is just disconnecting from incorrect parents.

I'm going to forward to Private User as she's related and has profiles in this family group.

New cousins for you Laura Jean Barlow !

Thank you to all who responded. My Barlow line has been fixed and improved! I am very pleased.

Exellent news Laura Jean Barlow. You might bookmark this discussion thread for the future, since there are always people here to assist.

Done

It SAYS it's done....perhaps bring it to the attention of Geni help.....

We tried.

Private User,
David Prins did it by merging duplcates.

how can a profile of a person born c1700 be private?

zombie perhaps?

Mozes Abraham Neter van Rotterdam

Private User

Geni had detected that Private User is his 3rd great grand daughter & that's within her family group / privacy range - often, unknown that it's defaulted that way by the manager. The manager was last on line in Nov, please do send a request to her inbox to "make the profile public," and noting why & how to.

My thanks

point is that the manager is FAKE. her parents were born c1850....

she is claiming her parents are

Barend Stortenbeek
Rebecca van Gelder

something should be done about it

Go to the actions menu of the profile and report as "claimed historic profile." Please be sure & explain why this is so in the text box, otherwise Customer Service won't understand - for instance, I am unfamiliar with the tree, so would not know it's a fake.

rvk is right.....the manager has siblings born in 1870's -1880's.....

And parents that were born 1845....

IMO would be better if a curator would report 'her'...

I cannot explain why I know it's wrong. Rvk , nothing to be afraid of or that you cannot do. We just need to make it clear when reporting so CS is advised of the action to take.

All ways that members can "do it themselves" are most appreciated. Curators are not meant to be an intermediary or gatekeeper to Customer Support, we have our own tree issues to solve. :).

Currators,

Can someone please take a look at this seeming private profile, I think we have a Zombie...

Richard M. Kirkbride

Thank you, Jonathan

Jonathan Evans-done
