I need help splitting a tree. I did a wrong merge assuming that two different people were the same. The following profiles are not related (they are not married): @María de Arcones, @Juan Bermejo de Peñas (Private and Juan Bermejo de las Peñas)
Can anyone help me deleting their relationship?
Thanks a lot!
Arvida Nyström
I want this profile, Arvida Nyström, removed from the father Johan Lindmark and his wife. I have found out that Arvida does not belong to these parents. Her surname is Nyström and not Lindmark and Sjöström, which I thought at first. I would like to have her only in her husbands tree, where I can add her real parents instead. Her husband is Carl August Andersson.
I have tried to remove her wrong parents under Relationships, but I only get the answer that it will split the tree. And that is exactly what I want to do, but I can not save my change.

Christen Olesen, Fuurboe
This profile ought to show my relationship to be my 4th great grandfather.
But Geni shows something else:
Christen Olesen is your fourth great uncle's sister's husband's brother.
Maybe it’s because I didn’t add this profile direct from my 3rd GG’s profile. But from his brother Thøger Olesen – their father Ole Jacobsen – Christen Olesen – and connected to my 3rd GG.
But regardless of the way I added the profile it ought to show the direct relationship.
I had a problem something like this here on another profile long time ago, and told about it. Therefore I wonder this is still a problem.
Dan Cornett - I just found that you have merged some profiles in my tree.
These profiles were copied from my tree by a new member in here.
- I think it would be a good idea if new members were informed not to copy existing profiles to their tree, but ask for a connection to the existing tree.
- After I had connected the new member to my part of the tree I asked her to delete these copied and irrelevant profiles. Now they are merged.
Hope that's it.

When I was a new basic member on Geni building my tree I was "told" by someone to "delete my profile, its a duplicate!!!"
I had been very excited about building my tree and discovering my ancestry. After that, not very much. Also I had no "edit" rights to contribute my research!
I believe it's kinder to reach out to a new member with a collaboration request, merge their duplicate for them, and then teach them how to merge or request management.
The FAQ are very good to send as links to new members:

Your relationship path issue could be:
- incomplete merge
OR
- the relationship calculator needs to be refreshed.
You will see a swirly Basket icon with directional arrows if the latter is the problem.
Erica has it totally right...the only recourse is to talk to them, explain the situation, and be a teacher.....tell them WHY, How to, and ask them to concentrate on their closer relatives FIRST to get used to how things work and what to look for....before venturing way back in time (where there are multiple managers).
IF you are diplomatic, they will usually listen...and work with you to learn the ins and outs of Geni.
Henny I "walked up" your tree & this time the swirly basket presented to me. I pressed it, waited for the new statement, and now I see
Christen Thomasen is Henny Odby Nielsen's fifth great grandfather.
So Jadra had the right diagnosis - the path needed to be refreshed.
The server does this automatically every few days.
Sorry for the delay in getting back on this, Henny. Yes, I was looking for possible tree conflicts, which would 'confuse' the path calculation -- finding a few is what led to the merging of duplicates ... with the intent and hope that the path calculation would then re-discover the correct path (which is evidently what happened).
Philéas Bissonnette This person needs to be disconnected from his 200+ year old parents! I didn't have an option to do it on his profile. Thank you
Looks like the below has a erroneous Merge request - but it's Not taking my abt 5 attempts at - No they're different:

Perhaps someone else can succeed - undoing the Merge request ?
Curators,
I hope someone can help me. Recently (esp) I have attempted to send a message to a Geni member and there is NO Security Code box so I can't send the message. I don't know if it is a problem at my end or with Geni.
The message site says "Security Code:" but there is nothing after it.
I just attempted to send a message to a cousin, William (Bill) J.D. Sharp. Initially there was a box there, but I hit the return key before I was quite ready & the box disappeared!!! I left site & came back & still no box.
FYI I like the #'s better than the letters!!!

I think it could be a good idea if Geni adopted the Facebook way of private settings.
Maybe the world tree would be more accesable for other relatives who are not included in your family tree as it works now.
Eg I'm thinking of the maps with familypictures. Some images are related to very close familymembers while others would be of interest for once or twice removed familymembers etc.
As it works now we need to exclude relatives from our familygroup if we want to keep it private.
intresting idea.. you mean picking and choosing Private User and saying I want to send photo a to this person photo b to this person.. message a to this person message b to this person. intresting concept on paper not sure how it would in real time...
But of course with some people they never follow up on good ideas..
