Fay, Thanks so much for your response and clarification. I know that my tree is probably a lot smaller than some of the others on Geni, but it has been a collaboration between myself and a cousin on my father's side of the family that has been ongoing for a few years. She actually started the tree and I added to it. In the process we have added a lot of information. I realize that I have a long way to go, and in fact have some information that I have not yet added to my tree. In the meantime, recently found cousins have also been adding information as well.
I have also done research at my local Family History Center as well as online with their website as well as JewishGen, JRI-Poland, and other online resources, and receive the daily digests from the various SIGS I have an interest in on JewishGen. I have gleaned quite a bit of information from there as well and have also helped others from my own research, and have in fact found that some are distantly related to me as well.
I prefer the "BIG" Tree rather than "World" Tree designation. I will continue to ask questions as the need arises, but have been "put off" by those on Geni who think that all merges must be made, regardless if both parties are comfortable that the information actually belongs in their trees or not. I do not believe in "suppositions" unless there is a real basis for them to be added into my tree. I know that not all information can be backed up with actual documents, but continued research should develop a good basis for the connection. That is all I am looking for. I will continue to question making any merge that I am not comfortable with by contacting the other profile manager for a further explanation before agreeing that the merge should be made; and will continue to pose questions to the group when the need arises.
I don't believe that my profiles are all private, since they can be searched on "google". I did some extensive work on my tree a while back, but due to time constraints of working full-time, and also reaching my current "brick wall" I have slowed down quite a bit. I still plan on continuing work on my tree and now that I am retired will have more time to do so. I have also done DNA testing, and am still waiting for the results of that in the hope I will be able to break down some of the "brick wall" I am currently facing.
I still believe that the GEDCOM on Geni needs to be worked on, to alleviate the mess it creates when you export it to your private computer. I started out with Family Treemaker years ago, and continue to update that file as well.
Thank you again for your kindness.
