Carole in HTML view probably if you reduce the number of ancestors / descendants to display the name would show more instead of being cut off to fit the screen.

Anyway - I think it's proving that there's a "tree name preference" setting needed to ensure the entered middle name shows in tree view.

Yep, I see it... Ben helped me with that. The thing is, at least here in the sourthern US a lot of folks have and continue to use the double first name, i.e. Betty Lou, Mary Jo, Lucy Ann, etc.... I think when that is the case, and ladies are known by their double names... that the double name should be visible.

Erica, my view of the HTML tree was only showing 3 generations, even when showing only two generations it did not display all the name. :(

Just above the slide bar there are 3 lines, selecting the 3 lines brings up a list of the persons displayed on the screen in the tree, here you can see the full name, it does not seem to list the persons if their node is not showing on the screen.

Sally - absolutely for American names, if it's a double first name, that should be entered in the 1st name field; and the same applies to the middle name field if there's more than one middle name.

I have an ancestor named Abijah John Dee Columbus Ross (he went by A.J.). I have to enter that in the right fields but because it's so dang long, I "could use" a truncated version for the display name.

Anyway if the name is entered correctly it "will" show correctly. Save the display name for the unusual situations.

I have noticed that even though I have the preference NOT to ignore display names I am still not seeing the display dame in recently added names - I think it catches up so I can understand some of the comments in this thread.

Not all profiles have a 'display name' that is different from the given name.

It is used when there IS a difference (at least, those that I have found)....it usually includes such things as (i.e. Dr. John Smith ;since his given name was NOT Dr....but he was known as Dr.)

Yes Fay - but I am talking about profiles I have added where there is a display name because they have a title etc. - These are not displaying on the tree even though others in other generations are. I think there must be a bug.

See http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000023149542399#600000002... where William MacDowall has a display name that isn't displayed for me, whilst his father's is.

Because the desciptive military title is a Prefix, while the name of his son is a Suffix.

Both are where they belong....

And the display will show in the event of a 'match' and 'compare'

June: I think what you are encountering is that the "Tree View" is not entirely refreshed when changes are made in another tab/window (or by another user!). The "display of a box" is often 'remembered' locally by the browser, and you need to fully-refresh the page, or even change the 'focus person' to get the data to be pulled anew from the database on Geni.com instead of the data cache local on your machine.

Fay - what I am pointing out is that despite my adding a display name, and despite my selecting NOT to hide display names - some display names are not showing up on the tree! If I roll my cursor over the node for William in the above link (because I use the flip node option) I can see that the display name is there - it is just not being displayed on the tree view.

Thanks Dan - tried refreshing but it still doesn't dhow the display name, tried focussing on someone else - still the same - and this is 3 hours afterwards!

You are talking about seeing "Colonel William MacDowall, 1st of Castlesemple" ? That's I see on the Tree View (as well as profile Display Name).

My last resort to 'refresh' is to go to the profile view, "throw away" that previous Tree View window/tab, and then click on the "Tree View" words from that profile page to get a completely new Tree View page/tab.

Yes Dan - have tried that but I still see the node without the display name. Not a big problem just irritating! I will look again tomorrow!

There is a finite space for the display....the 'tree' view can only accomodate just so much.

Please help. I accidentally merged someone in my family with someone with the same name (both of whose spouses have the same name, too) who is not in my family.
My family member is Max Ross. He is married to my family member Fanny Ross.
Fanny Ross is not part of my family. Please simply remove the Fanny Ross and Max Ross profiles from my family. Thank you.

Thank you.

Not sure if this has been reported and who can fix it but several people have received this message.

Managers of Marie Clyde Cisło, her fathers name was john

I am contacting you about this profile: Grace Marie Cisło

Sincerely,

DARLENE POTTS

Marie Clyde Cisło

What is odd is most of us listed as managers for this profile did not request to be and are not shown as such on her profile, so I don't see how to remove myself. Any ideas as to what happened and how to correct it?

Hi Roger

That is odd!

The profile however looks fine, so I'm thinking this was a (hopefully) one time messaging "glitch". You could open a bug report on the help platform for Geni staff to investigate "why & how" the message went out to the wrong managers.

Hi Erica,

Thanks, I have my hands full with the people I add, lol.

:). You could reply asking the member to resend the message, hopefully it will go to the correct managers for the correction the next time.

@http://www.geni.com/profile/edit_basics/6000000009948933751. I keep asking a cousin to remove her e-mail address on a profile I created, but she won't do it, so is there a way to have this removed when they won't remove it? I need this e-mail address removed eliviahardison@gmail.com

@http://www.geni.com/profile/edit_basics/6000000008764258105 need to delete or merge duplicate parents, but cousin won't do it, so what do I need to do to correct if he won't?

April, I cannot see the email, but parents are merged on the other issue

Is this person still active? Douglas Steven Plummer

Can't find a report of any activity later than April 5, 2013, but the Curators have access to tools that I don't have. He asked for assistance tracing his Plummer ancestors (or at least one of them) and may have gotten more than he bargained for. :-)

It says he was last online: June 26, 2013

Thanks...I hope he comes back.

@Anna Maria Hallman who was born c 1718 has 2 zombie husbands attached and possibly one child. I would appreciate help to clear this matter.

Thank you,
Roberta

Beraman Berryman Knight Jr married to Isabella Knight (Cook) There are duplicates for each of these in my tree, I try to resolve duplicates, but it doesn't show them as possible duplicates. If I go into the profile of any of the 4, and click merge profile, type in the name of the one I want to merge with, the next page simply shows the profile with an alert of profile deleted. Nothing actually appears deleted. Thanks!
