Gets even weirder with Internet Explorer... will try to restart... anyone else having difficulties with lost carriage returns in the About Me windows?

i'm using Safari (at work) and it looks fine???

Ben, It looks fine in Firefox 3.6.12

Just restarted, and the same problems persist. Sounds like it's just me, but can't figure out for the life of me why this would be coming up. I mean, sure, it's Chile, but despite the name meaning that, it actually isn't the end of the world - there is reasonable bandwidth (better than in Belarus, if Skype is any indicator). But then I'm not a tech person.

Anyone running into issues on IE or Chrome? Will try to trooper on, meanwhile...

Geni just made a release which allows wikitext formatting in the About Me of profiles and if your profiles contains text which may trigger these markups you now know the reason and can make proper changes.

Stay tuned for the official announcement.

Okay... then what's the appropriate "wikitext formatting" to display two carriage returns (better known as a space to separate text)? Or single carriage returns in amongst footnotes? I mean, in engineering school, they only make you go through a semester of visual basic...

You have buttons above the edit window and a link to help. Try them out.

It doen't display the carriage returns in IE or in messages sent, Everything is one long paragraph. Most of us have no Idea what "wikitext formatting".
I tried reading the Wiki instructions and it's all Gobbly-Goog bto me. What happented to user friendly. You know, made so EVERYONE can use it. (I shouldn't have to learn "wikitext formatting" to type any thing, and Word pad, Note pad doesn't use "wikitext formatting") There was nothing wrong with the old way. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

So how does the paragraph mark differ from carriage return? (I can tell already this is going to be one annoying "feature"... forgive any snipey remarks...)

Ben, Carole,

It's just a mini-Word toolbar. Previous formatting should stay fine. But now we'll have the ability to hyperlink, how awesome is that?

Start a new discussion for any bugs. They tend to be browser related. Big hint: use Firefox, it's the least buggy browser I've ever used.

Marv,

You will master "Wikitext" very quickly. I do agree Notepad rocks.

Hi Erica:

Previous formatting is not staying fine, though. I mean it has universally changed all the About Me sections to gibberish (well, difficult to read, at any rate). If you don't put in a divider line between text, apparently the space betweens work, but if you put in a divider line, or have one carriage return between items of text (including a divider line), it runs it together.

As to hyperlinks, I sort of liked it where it only linked where you had a webpage marked out. To me, this is one-too-many bells and whistles.

As to browsers, I don't think that making Geni conform to only one browser (be it Firefox, IE, Chrome, Opera, My-Brother-In-The-Basement-Hacked-This-Together, etc.) is a particularly useful strategy either. Appreciate the advice on Firefox, and may consider it at some point, but Marvin has it right - this needs to be functional for people who don't want to go back to school to get a second degree in IT.

Call me a Luddite, but I keep this brick next to my computer for a reason - that's right, rebooting... :)

Marvin - You weren't kidding. Poor Leonard was in Zombie-land! It should be all better now!

Marvin - I've been working on a few merges around your Leonard (a task made *so* much easier by your quality stacking) and have stumbled upon a few lingering zombies. Stubborn buggers. I'll take care of them, as well.

Much better, thanks!

Private User@Jenn
I'm not sure what you did. But I went back to thomas westbrook and he has in his mearby merge issues 114 tree conflics and 168 data conflicts. That's over double what it was. So that's a thanks and a "i'll be here awhile" thanks a lot. I wonder where they were hiding? Or did you really merge that many?

i hate wikiformatting.
just had to say it.
erg.

@Marvin Yeah. I really merged that many. Sorry. I've been merging for the last 2+ hours in and around the Leonards. There are a gazillion profiles with only 3-4 managers. Merge a few of 'em and voila! A couple hundred conflicts! Yup. You're welcome! I'll come back in a while after you've stacked a for a bit. Hopefully we don't turn up too many more!

Ben, Marvin, Erica

Ben is correct, all the profiles that had information pasted on are all out of wack.

I found that putting a bullit or (*) before each entry that you want on a separate line acts like a carriage return.

This can be done in your word processor or note pad and then copy and paste onto the About Me section, its still a chore.

Example

*Joan Blank Blank
*b. abt 1700 New York

See Carole you learn fast.

But there are easier ways.

If the profile existing data seems wrongly formatted, all you need to do is edit once in the "about me" (take out an extra space, for instance) and it will revert to the nice formatting you had before.

P.S. I couldn't say before because y'all hadn't given me a chance to play with it. It is fabulous to be able to automatically number, use bold and italics.

"Tagging" other profiles will be here soon too, so you can put a pedigree in one profile and then refer to it in the child profiles.

Hello team ..

Please could you see what you can do with this one..

Because they only died in 1852, we don't have access to do it. You need one of the managers to approve the merges.

We have a manager with correct rights but they are not able. Something amiss with the profile..

Sally, done!

Mauritz, I think you need permission from Private or her (single) collaborator. There are no claimed profiles except the administrator in the family group of the right-hand Daniel.

One must have approvals from someone with rights on both profiles in order to complete the merger.
