Yes, I think that one tiny wording change could make a HUGE difference to many users.
But then of course Geni would need to deal with the concept of who is the "primary contributor" on the profile (i.e., who to send notifications to, and which profile "wins" in a merge). I can hear the arguments now: "I contributed more accurate information than User B, so why is User B considered the primary contributor?"
This is off-topic from Curators please assist - but given that David K raised the question of which becomes the primary profile after a merge - I have noticed recently a new phenomenon. Geni always gives priority in a merge to the profile with more managers, on the basis that the profile with more managers has been tended to by more people and is better researched etc. The new phenomenon arises because of the new practice to add managers to abandoned profiles rather than to remove an old manager and replace with a new manager. So you can have a single manager profile that is well established, been there a long time, and is well researched, merged with a sloppy profile with wrongly spelled names, guessed circa dates, etc. The sloppy profile was abandoned, so now has two managers - the old manager who abandoned Geni and a new manager. The sloppy profile always "wins". I wonder if there is some way to avoid this? There is probably a thread elsewhere on merges where this comment may be more relevant.
In spite of the fact that we can be happy with the automatic adding of a recent active manager to an abandoned profile after reporting this as abandoned, we are not happy with the fact that the nearest familygroupmember of the old manager is added, because sometimes the profiles doesn't have any connection with the family of the abandoning manager, and sometimes the nearest was most nearby and most actual active but never added any info or any profile and was just a spectator, so that is many cases no solution.
Fay - I think the priority is to number of managers rather than how recent the profile is.
Fred - first the system seems to try to do the assignment to whoever added the manager who abandoned the tree. So if Adam created a profile for Ben, and Adam then abandoned Geni, it seems that Geni first looks to see that John added Adam originally, and then seeks to add John as the manager of Ben's profile - even though there may be absolutely no connection between John and Ben.
If John has abandoned too, then I think it looks to see who added John ...
[This is in the case that the manager was added by someone else rather than started their own tree]
Select Manager Options in the Actions menu on the profile.
You will find an [x] on the manager names you are allowed to remove.
You cannot remove family members, so if you want them removed you have to send them a message asking them to remove them self.
You should however remember that they, if they are family, still have full edit and merge access to the profile, even if they remove them self.
As I create new profiles/entries I tend to leave matches alone to give active managers a chance to review and merge proposed merges, that way merged data should remain from the best sourced management, even if there are several. When I get back to that area, if nobody has looked then I treat it as abandoned and request to be added before merging.
But that is me. I hold no illusions as to my relative skills in the field. And no, I did not always do it that way.
You can convert the image to document via "organize this album" - there's a good FAQ, I'll post it. You then lose it as the image & would need to upload again & not convert. I think it's worth it, the 2nd upload is fast and easy. I made a specific album I named "photo to document" to keep myself organized.

Weird thing happened.
After the merge of 2 orphans into this one, you could not see his parents anymore, however if you go in his family tree, they show up.
Bug?

I can't add video to this profile Pavica Jakić (Sisarić).
She is within my Family Group.
The video is an MP4 (7.7MB, 1.25 minutes long).
I've tried three times now, it loads for a minute or so and then the "Technical Difficulties" notice pops up.
Hello.
Im in the process of deleting my account, and I do not want to leave my relatives here, it's all accounts i manage that are private (so not on any other trees or anything)
Now i have a few left that wont let me delete them, even tho im the manager of all accounts. The delete relationship option is red, it wasnt on all of them, just these that are left.
Olivia Totemark Lindström - there is currently an error in Geni that caused that, but I have fixed it for you.
Practically you did not have to delete a single profile manually as you have done, - you are in an isolated tree not shared with anyone, so the complete tree would be automatically deleted when you close your account.
When entering the http://www.geni.com/account_settings/close_account page you get a clear question about donating your profiles to another family member if you are sharing the tree with someone.
Alex Moes Thanks for reporting! I'm looking into another video upload bug, so I will make sure to include your report in my tests and ticket for an engineer to fix.
I don't know if curators can help with this - but I will ask anyway.
Normally where I find two profiles who are the same person I can drag them onto each other in resolve duplicates in tree view and then request the merge even if I can't complete it. Now I am finding that after I have dragged one onto the other and hit "MERGE DUPLICATES" I get Error
You don't have permission to view this page.
Two examples are when I try to request the merge of the duplicate husbands of Eva Ethel Glinnan and duplicate wives of Hartog van Leer
I know I can't complete the merges. But I should at least be able to request the merges for another manager to complete.
Thanks Erica has now completed the merge on the husband of Eva Ethel Glinnan
Doesn't explain the error message, which remains when I try to request a merge on the two wives of Hartog van Leer.
