NB: when there is a needed alphabet translation such as Hebrew & English, Pete Rohel's method can look great.
For German names though it would be the generation BEFORE the immigrant (those that lived & died in Germany) that might have a different alphabet from English (use of the thorn letter for instance). And that will show clearly in "walking the tree."
I agree about the messy part, but in many cases I did not create the profiles - just changing them. The originator might just change it back without reason to look closer, or at a glance, and I'm not sure what that might do to future connections. The name means "people from Tyrol" but I have no idea what the Germans called Tyrol back then in order to come up with "Dyrollinger?", and I would like to find my Tyrolean roots. Any thoughts?
Pille Sepp I have sent a message to the managers of the profile of Karl Eerik Sepp so that I can ascertain exactly what needs doing so I don't make things any worse.
Pille Sepp, so what I need to know in order to help you is how to tell which Rein Sepp IS the father and which is NOT the father of Karl-Erik?
Pille Sepp I have detached Karl from the wrong Rein. Can you please check the tree now to make sure I did this correctly? Thanks

need some help completing this merge, thanks!
Once again I am asking for help from the curators or anyone in admin. I already sent this message Jan 27 2013 to customer service with no response:
"Dear CSR,
When I "request a form" to "submit a ticket" for Geni Help it says:
"User is invalid
Email: has already been taken"
When I contacted geni on facebook they told me many times they are trying to fix this error but it has now been over one year!"
So #1, I cannot submit a ticket.
#2, my tree is with the World Tree. I work with a team of people. We do not like the World Tree and we want to be separated from the World Tree.
#3. I accidently did a bad merge for a Robert McCalla just now and it needs to be unmerged at this profile please:
#4. How can I become a Curator? I have put a lot of work into geni and helped others as well. Who makes this decision?
As far as the World Tree goes, you're probably out of luck. It's Geni's entire reason for existing.
You could download your GEDCOM and work on it with a family tree program on your own computer. But as long as you want to collaborate with other people via Geni, it's all or nothing. You can set heavy privacy restrictions if you wish - check your Account Settings.
Hello, Private User
re: "#3. I accidently did a bad merge for a Robert McCalla just now and it needs to be unmerged at this profile please: Robert McCalla"
That merge is in a private family area and -- as you are a PRO
member you probably will be able to do what is required:
-- create a 2nd husband of the correct spouse (in this case: one can also create a brother and then separate them later if there is no spouse). See if you can find information in the Revisions or other means to re-create as much of that other profile's detail as possible.
-- attach any children that need moving to the correct parent (creating duplicate parent links, possibly, which then can be resolved on their Relatioinship tab by removing the incorrect pair).
-- remove the relationship to the incorrect spouse (or parent, as the case may be).
It's not overly complicated, just tedious ... particularly if other incorrect merges have NOT been done yet.
If you need help severing incorrect resulting relationships, then ask specifically for those.
It is the hope of many of us that the ability to un-merge will eventually happen -- but it won't happen in the next few days!
I have a few other questions for you that I will PM you about.
This tree is a MESS from here down: Thomas White of Somerset
This is not Sir Thomas White of South Warnborne. I am not sure who he really is, since most of his children seem to be from Nottingham.
"His" wife Agnes, Agnes Richards White, of Somerset, was actually married to Thomas White of Somerset. Alice Alice Coles, of Somerset was their daughter and was married to someone named Coles - but not to anyone named Molford.
Suggestions:
* Check and see whether there was a Thomas White in Nottinghamshire (particularly around Bingham) who got himself kinighted, was an armiger, or was otherwise notable. (There probably was one.)
* Find out who he married, and if her name was Agnes or something like it.
* Find out who their children were and who they married, etc.
* Fix this HOWLER: Eleanor Ruble m. Owen Ruble - she's married to a man who was born some 150 years after her father died!
I can't touch any of them, or I'd do it myself.
