Sheila could not remove the incorrect parents. That has been fixed.

Fay actually I added the curator note after Sheila's report & while Dan Cornett was disconnecting wrong parents. :)

The overview notes are especially nice.

Teamwork!

The advantage of notes in file...

I still would have gone to the Curator on reocrd 1st....and not to a discussion site....

Fay - timing.

1st came the report Sheila raised.
2nd came the profile correction.
3rd came the curator note to help clarify so less errors in the future.
4th came the reports back to the discussion.
5th came the coffee break! :)

Point was: If she had gone to Curator 1st, #1,2,4 could have been eliminated...#5 would have stayed the same.

Dan and Erica, many thanks for your quick response in removing Isabel's incorrect parents. Fay, I knew who her parents were but geni would not let me remove the incorrect pair so I asked for help.

They didn't upload when you were in 'relationships'?

Fay - she wasn't a manager on the profile or perhaps not collaborating with any either. I sent her a collab request.

Sheila - if this comes up again, try, from profile view, relationships tab, and the checkbox at the bottom of the screen to "remove relationship." If you were trying it from another screen perhaps that explains the "no you can't" message.

Thank you, Erica, for clarifying that....Im sure the situation has come up numerous times before....and most don't consider the reason for not being able to disconnect.

My cousin here sadly died several years ago ~ I am prevented from editing his details because he joined my tree and took ownership of his profile. Is he condemned to eternal life?

David White

Just go to his profile, click Actions, select Report and the Deceased and customer service will take care of unclaiming his profile which gives you full edit access.

The closest Geni user will inherit his two managed profiles, but that would not cause any problem for you since you still will have edit access to them.

Sir, I thank you. Have done as you advised.

Rev. Joseph Walker Hall has too many parents, but Geni won't let me fix it because it would split the tree. Help!

His correct parents (according to his death certificate) are John Hall and Nancy Hall (Stokes). I put links to his death certificate and to his FindAGrave memorial in the About section of his profile.

Thanks!

Marilyn Jean Horn Problem solved.

Thanks, Eldon!

Amber Powe is a minor and has not started a tree. Her aunt Marcia Barker is in breach of this as her grandparents , which we are are the only additional guardians and have not given permission for either Amber or Samantha here sister to be in the public forum.

Please see the guidelines here:

There is a special "contact" link for these situations on that page. Best it comes from you.

I have reported the following profile, but is there anything else that should be done? Reverend John Wise How can a long dead person have a pro membership? Something is wrong here.
Thanks,
Jessie German

@Jessica Marie German - this is a situation that is called "Claimed Historical Profile" in Geni language. Someone has created an account using the dead person's information. Reporting to customer service ("CS") is the right thing to do. I checked and the profile IS reported, so there is nothing more we can do until CS has a chance to resolve the matter.

Jessica: I also reported it with an additional request to check for an email address ... that is often why former 'claimed' profiles don't completely become a "normal deceased" profile.

Can someone remind me why when i am resolving data conflicts on public profiles Geni will sometimes send my corrections to the manager for approval rather than just making the changes?
It seems especially odd when i can just edit the profile and make the changes manually.

It seems to depend on whether the profile is managed by you or one of your collaborators, or by somebody you have no connection to.

Master Profiles are also quite heavily restricted, in order to make/keep them as accurate as possible.

That makes sense from the perspective of how Geni was set up pre-2011 but now that all Pros can edit all Public profiles it seems to be an unnecessary anachronism.
I vary in my approach, sometimes i nominate the changes and submit them for approval (on day maybe perhaps), other times i just move on without bothering, very occassionally i will manually edit the profile.

It's not quite true that "all Pros can edit all Public profiles". Master Profiles often have some or all fields locked. (The commonest reason for this is that assorted bits of bad information have been cleared off and the curator wants to make sure nobody adds them on again.)

Pros need to either be a co-manager or collaborate with one of the managers of a profile to edit ALL fields of a profile....they can edit only basic info otherwise and add info to 'about me'...other fields are locked out for them.

Thanks Maven, obviously Master Profiles which have locked fields are not editable by Pro members unless those members happen to be Curators, I was generalising.

Fay, i'm talking about the most basic of details which come up in Data Conflicts, ie. was her name Katharine or Catherine for example. A Pro member can easily access ANY (non-MP) Public profile to change the spelling of a name, so the need to get the manager's approval for the resolved data is surely nothing but a hangover from the pre-2011 access changes?

Hi guys, I need some help. One of our cousins needs to be merged, and approximately 13 family members agree. However, due to an unknown inactive person , who is not responsive (or may not even be interested any more), we cant complete the merge. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks,
nathan@nrosencga.com

Have you reported the person managing the profile in question?

Nathan Rosenshein Pleas post a link to the profile that needs merging and also to the inactive person and a curator will look at it.

Good idea, Eldon
