I also had some critical ones that were coded "private'....check your 'data conflicts' ....those same people showed up in my list with the option to code as LIVING 'false' or 'true'.....I, of course, chose 'false'.....and the problem went away...
It may have been a fluke, but worth looking into your DATA CONFLICTS listings for relatives, followed, and managed..
Here are some steps to quickly find who is Deceased & Private ... or Living & Public ... or any other combination of the 'filters': see the lower portion of this Project description: http://www.geni.com/projects/Brick-Wall-Workshop/13085
I had two profiles that I kept getting a pop up to drag one onto the other but no way of knowing if they were really the same person. There are two people in tree with same name but not the same person. Related but not the same person. So basicly I am leaving well enough alone. If the one trying to be dragged had a date included then maybe I could tell if it belonged to the other person but it doesn't
from what i read they were planning on keeping them as separate entities while making 'improvements' to myheritage complete with intact staffing. however, its my observation that what usually happens in situations like this is that within 2 years staff on the site that was bought out (in this case geni) tends to get restructured as it were and people get replaced. For example, when ancestry was first sold, they said staffing would stay the same, then relocated head office. staffing changes followed
Unfortunately sometimes that does happen since one might have several lines that eventurally end up with the same orginal two people. In adding my cousins line it has been discovered at least four ways to get to two parents. In my lines it happens all over the place and because they are common names you don't know you are going to end up joining the lines until you get there and that's just in USA. It gets worst when you get involved with the lines from England.I get to Henry 2nd and 1st and William the Conq, several ways. I don't think I have them all tracked as yet. I am sure other people have the same problem.
There are so many Libby routes it's unbeleivable! That's because each gen had like up to 14 children by one wive and more by another wife.Fernald is the same way. So is Chandler and York is on both my grandmother's side and my grandfather's side and we didn't even know they were very distantly related and that's just here in the USA , Never mind over sea and all those Campbells, Eskins , Marrs and Douglases. The list goes on and on and on. Don't forget some of these people not only had many wives but tons of mistresses. They weren't anymore well behaved back then , then they are today.Maybe worst back then.
Hey Erica Howton ,
I totally agree with you about the duplicates. I always ran a search before I added a profile back in the day. The basic users can't run a search now. But, if you run a search on Google you may be able to find a profile, but certainly not a private one.
My question for Noah Tutak - Are the basic users going to be able to run searches with the new changes? I think it would be a wise decision if they are. That way there is less chance of duplicating a profile.

Hi Private User,
Geni and MyHeritage will remain separate websites. We will not move users from one site into the other.
Over the coming months, we will be adding MyHeritage's Smart Matching and Record Matching technologies which will help you build your family tree even easier. We're really excited about this change and we think it will be of tremendous benefit to everyone in the Geni community.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
