Thanks, Dan.
I was wondering about that because a couple of weeks ago I received an email from Geni saying that a profile that I had reported as abandoned was in fact not abandoned and they asked me to read their relevant policy/guidelines. I can't remember exactly what it said 'cos I deleted it.
But now I know why some profiles don't have that choice.

Hello lovely curators :)

I notice that this thread talks about abandoned trees many times and I was wondering something. My godfather started a tree back in Sept of 2007. I was there at his house when he started it and he entered his immediate family. I don't think he invited anyone to his tree, nor did he log on much. Well he passed away in 2008. The email attached to his Geni tree no longer exists. I am just a basic user and although I can see the names he entered, I am unable to access any of the profiles. I would hate to see the information he entered go to waste or his tree lost due to whatever the fate is for 'abandoned' trees. I was wondering if one of you could save the tree; or if it is already deemed abandoned, maybe I could help you open it and then you could work with it. The last name is PRESTELLA. I see 9 profiles made by my godfather Donald when I look in 'All of Geni'.

Thank you for your help.

Private User can you help Karen, the account of her deceased godfather has not been reported as abandoned.
Donald Wallace Prestella

Karen they are all private profiles so no one can see them and it does not look like there are any other managers then the late Donald Wallace Prestella. I have now asked Customer Service if something other then report the tree as abandoned can be done.

Some of the people in the tree are still alive. However, let me see if I can get into it and at least make public the deceased people.

I have messaged you Karen Lynne Raffanelli

Thank you Anne-Marie :)

Leonard Trask
Will you please remove Deborah Keen Trask (b. 1795) as the mother of Leonard Trask (b. 1805). Obviously a mistake. Thank you!

Mike Baylor there are two Deborah Keen trasks on this tree. The one with the greater amount of detail is the one you are asking to be removed, so I'm a little leary of doing this. I would think it would be easier for you to make a merge and keep what data is correct than to ask strangers to do so. To complete a merge select 'More' on the bottom of the node in tree view of Osborn Trask then select from the drop down menu 'move this person'. This will create a floating node that you can now drag and drop onto the duplicate. Then resolve outstanding conflictin data on the remaining profile so that it is correct.

I hope this helps.

But what about the children? Who do they belong with? Does Deborah have a different spouse?

Yes, the dates seem unlikely; however, the question in my mind is which is more likely to be correct -- the dates or the relationships?

I see you have added a duplicate Deborah Trask as Osborn's wife; what is the intent of adding a duplicate but removing the connection to the existing Deborah?

Since you 'own' the profile, you may be able to change the relationships (via Relationship tab) yourself.

FYI: In case you did not intend, the Oldham branch below Leonard are all private profiles. (Public profiles have a light green line around their profile picture space in the Tree View.)

Thanks so much for your help and advice. Deborah was actually a second wife and not the Mother of Leonard. Also, I had not idea that many of the profiles that I created are private. I will need to work on making many many of them public. Thanks again!

re: making Deceased profiles Public.

See instructions for doing it easily in the "Brick-Wall Workshop" project: http://www.geni.com/projects/Brick-Wall-Workshop/13085

I MUST delete ALL the data/people/tree which I formely posted on your site AS my exwife does NOT want her gata published for the privacy and safetly ASAP/NOW. my email is:mike_w_jackson@hotmail.com and her name is "Donnabella Viernes Jackson".

michael jackson, - I would normally just give the advice to just log on and close the [[6000000016650216263 ]] account and all profiles will be automatically deleted since we are talking about a unconnected/stand-alone tree (- i.e. not the world family tree, usually called "the big tree")

I do however observe that there are two more recently logged in users in that tree, Private User and Private, so they have to close their accounts as well since shared profiles does not get automatically deleted and just inherited by the closest user.

You find the close account option under Account Settings in the menu under your name in the upper right corner.

The easiest and probably quickest way to get rid of your ex-wife is to log on and delete the profile y clicking the [x] in the node of her in tree view. If you don't remember your old login you can recover it or ask one of the other users to just delete the profile for you.

That would not destroy the tree for the other users and they can still maintain and build onto it.

Missed the link to your old account, it is: Private.
If you still have a valid email on that account you will get a notification on my tagging and following the link will help you logging in on that account.

OH NO!! that will mess up our trees!! cant you just change it to a private tree??? alot of people have the same ancestors anyways so no point in all the secrecy >.<

Ya that's a big problem. that's why some of mine that are alive are initials no names or date. For their privacy sake. Doesn't matter if it public info. They have a right to not want to be part of this. And yes people are afraid if identity theft and rightfully so. There was a woman here town years ago who went to buy a house and found someone else using her info bought a house in her name and was living in it. Recently on the news there 's been much about this. Even fooling the government and causing people a lot of problem. That's why i even limit info on more recent ones. And maybe it's already happened to them. Ya their a reason sometimes for secrecy! I have some parts of the tree I stop dead short before adding info, since I know certain people would be very upset .It's only common courtesy, don't you think?

I can also see where removing info , since it's in here now, could mess others up. Write the info down for your records, since it's out there and let the other person delete it. Then both are you are happy.Of I don't know how happy the orginal person will be if you do that!

Valerie F E Peters, my answer to michael is based on the fact that he is NOT a part of our tree, - he is already in a private, unconnected tree, so whatever he do will not affect us at all.

You observe unconnected users and profiles by visiting their profile and see if you get an offer at the top to find that path to that person. When you open michael's profile you will only see "No path found to M. Jackson." without any explanation or offer to find the path, telling you that he is not connected to your tree.

thank you Bjorn,,didnt know that,,ill continue with my own worries now :)

If he had just joined that day, which his profile said he had, then no would have had a chance to get connected, so he probably would have not effect anyone, anywhere , anywhere, at that point. So really no one needs to worry!

How do you unmerge two trees that were merged in error? Dennis James Taylor Dennis James Taylor erroneously merged with Tina Mitchell Tina Goyne Mitchell. Neither accounts can delete the merger. Please unmerge. Thank you.

You mean cut the spouse connection between those two?

Since both are claimed profiles they have to do it them self.

Edit their own profile, click on the Relationships tab, wait... and after a while it pops up a list of connections with a check-mark and a [Remove] link below.

Dont forget to SAVE the new relationship after you have 'Removed' the incorrect relationship...or it won't 'take'

Fay,- the Save buttons (Save and close or Save and continue) have _absolutely_ no effect on connection removal edits. That is exactly the error most people makes when they are unable to cut a connection. \
They check-mark the connection they want to cut and click Save - with absolutely no effect. You have to click on the [Remove] button below the check-mark section to execute it, and the action is immediate if you have permissions to cut it (the button get red if you don't)
When you have made the cut you can just click cancel or close the edit window if there are no other edits you have done on that page. Saving is not needed to save the actions of cutting the connection because it was already done when you clicked [Remove].

I know that...after I hit the "remove' button I SAVE the new relationship (which now does not included the party/parties that were deleted.

The end result is the same...

The end result is the same because you don't have to click SAVE ;-)

I know, that interface is messy, - may be Michelle Elena Kempner can put it on the to-do list.

I just get used to clicking SAVE on other things...so if it works or is redundant is beside the point...the wrong parents/wives/husbands/ are still GONE...

The interface is much better than it was a couple of years ago...at least you can work it now...it WAS very confusing before...

Problem is that a lot of people work TREE only and don't even realize that the field is available under PROFILE...and all its categories...so it's just unfamilarity with the 'profile' functions that trips up a lot of people.

What do you do if a profile has two sets of parents? Both people who put a set in each have proof.they are correct.By the way both sets of parents lead to the same two sets of grandparents., because two brother's married two sisters. So one of them is the right set and the other one is an aunt and uncle!

@(Judy)
First - go to the discussion tab on that profile and put in a message about the two sets of parents and the documentation for each.
Second - tag your favorite curator and ask them to MP the profile with a text box message about the parents. Tell your curator to read the discussion notes when you contact him/her.

It's a difficult issue. I, for one, would be reluctant to cut off either relationship. In this case, because the grandparents are not affected, we don't have to. We just need to explain what's going on. The only real solution is to find a birth record and I know that is not always possible.
