Dan Cornett: You have to have edit access to 'relationships' before you can change/correct the marriage of anyone....Pro's can only edit in regard to basic info and "about me'....not the other fields.

Correct. Editing relationships requires "manager" or "curator" rights.

... unless also a Collaborator. Thanks for the reminder!

Peter Rohel (c) You are right, I should have rephrased it differently. A more clearer way would have been to say that "Someone attached the wrong Sarah Allen to Richard Slater. I wasn't wanting any names deleted or removed.

Dan Cornett I guess I should stop using the word divorce. I just assumed that everyone knew what I meant because I could have made an x-spouse on my own.

I also need a divorce! Alice Kelley is shown as having a second marriage, to William Settlemeyer. I can find no evidence that such a marriage ever occurred. Although I am the one who uploaded the profile, with this relationship, I am unable to remove it. Alice Mary Kelley

Private profile, cannot assist unless set to Public.

I made her public. Thanks!

Stephanie Jeanne Olmstead-Dean -- there are a lot of private profiles surrounding Alice Kelley's. You might want to look at your list of private profiles and decided which you wish to keep private and which you'd like to be Public (e.g.: so others can find and connect to them).

To 'find' them, go to the "Family" --> "Lists", then "Show Advanced Controls" so you can list just those "Private" and "Deceased" -- that list also makes it quick to change the Private/Public status (one click each!).

Just a bit of FYI!

William Settlemeyer has been disconnected as a husband of Alice Mary Kelly with a note added to the "about."

Going back to Leslie's problem profile -- most curators understand when a member asks us to "divorce" a couple, they are asking us to break the relationship. In the past, we used the phrase "Geni-divorce" as a shorthand for break the relationship. Perhaps we all need to be a little more clear in our language when requesting help from others.

I thought I knew what Leslie wanted, because I have assisted her in the past. When I opened up the ex-wife's profile, the first thing I saw was a "1" on the source tab, so I looked at it. I followed the link and knew I could not grant her request to separate the profiles. I came back to this discussion to explain. Leslie did a little more investigation. I decided I could show that that they were ex-husband and wife but that it was still not right to separate the two profiles.

Again, this points out that we all should take just a second to verify the facts on a profile before making a major change requested by someone else. This also applies to those very generous PRO members who assist basic members through another discussion. Two minutes of research can save two hours of repair work.

Happy Friday everyone!

Guess what, I need help splitting another tree. Somewhere along the line someone connected Elizabeth Keate to the wrong husband. She is currently connected to 2 John Keates. One of them is the right husband, one of them is the wrong husband. The one that needs to be disconnected from her is John Hungerford Keate, Lt.

Thanks for you help.

I don't know what has happened to this line, all the moving around of the connections John Hungerford Keate, Lt. is connected as wife now to Elizabeth Hungerford Keate who should be his dau.

From the posting on her profile she was wid. of John Macie and later married John Marshe Dickinson. Mistress of Hugh Percy, 1st Duke of Northumberland of which she had a son.

Along with other connection issues, at least she is still connected to Hugh Percy (which I changed the selection of ex-wife to partner) and her illegitimate son.

Those profiles confused me as well. I know nothing about that Keate line. I just stumbled on to John Hungerford Keate, Lt. working another line and noticed he got hooked in to the wrong tree. At least that part was taken care of (thanks Angus!)

thank you Private for bringing it to our attention.

I have already added some sources for the Keate's and the connecting Hungerford's.

And rearranged some connections.

Is there any way of removing your tree from the world tree?

Private User What do you mean when you say "remove"?
It is easy to copy out the information you want to a GEDCOM and take it to another site.
It is also possible (but a little harder) to remove information that you have put there and are administering alone (it is considered impolite to remove information in profiles that multiple people have contributed to).
It is not possible once your tree is connected to the world tree to get it back to being an isolated tree on Geni.
Hope this helps...

boy what part of privacy is not a given right don't people understand? I think it should be but the matter is out of my hands as the suprume corut has written in stone there are no privacy rights at least not on geni if not the entire internet.. that issue seems to be the zombie that just will not die and i am sick of hearing about it..

and getting back to harald's comment.. i've seen abuse of people removing profiles that multipile people have worked hard on just because some one doesn't like to share or is a spite full troll.. and that whole issue really needs to be addressed better because it's becoming a zombie that won't die and a hinderance to advancement that and the conplaining about not getting free profile viewing..

why would one want to remove part of the tree?
past is history and it is public. i see no reason to deny history.

i had a niece that had a bad apple in the family that was the father of her grandson. she did not want to put him on the tree. she listened to me and added him. i mean he is the "father".
this privacy demand for historic profiles(deceased) is totally ridiculous in my mind. they are a public record. why would you try to hide fact. it only gums up the tree & makes things more difficult. just an opinion.

Harald Tveit Alvestrand thank you for your response.

Now when I do a search for someone connected to my tree, hundreds to thousands of people with the same name come up who are unaffiliated with me and my family...terrible!

Private User There are three search options. All of Geni will probably give too many names. Try Connected to me, then Managed by me and see what happens.

Sandra - Getting way too many results for a search 'limited' to "Connected to me" was the first major downer I experienced with being connected to the Big Tree, also. Suddenly, limited to Connected to Me did not really limit much. Wish there was a way to say, limit to those managed by Me or anyone in my Family Group.

However, on the plus side now -- In addition to the options Eldon mentions - also look to left side, and see after the first results, you can limit those results by entering a spouse's name, or middle name, or sibling name, or etc etc - These options available to Basic as well as Pro. Check out the possibilities, see if any will help (Headings are: Names, Filters, Location, Family, Events, Options. I have not played with all of them - have found choices under Names, Filters, and Family helpful. Location less so, since for example, if you ask for those in IL, it will not include in match those entered as Chicago, IL )

I need some help unhooking another couple. Could someone please unhook Mary Bradford from Thomas Joines, Sr.

Thanks!

he has been dead for several hundred years. I sent a message to his manager, but no response. He needs to be merged with his duplicate. Can someone change his status to deceased?

Private User in regards to my 9th great aunt's first cousin four times removed's husband that profile is private.. and the owner hasn't responded to requests to open it up?

Private User as that profile is in your max family range, you should be able to make it public using the "Make Profile Public" item on the Actions pull-down menu. That would give you ability to mark it deceased, after which time you may want to set it private again, if you think that's the manager's wishes. You can also use the "Report" menu item to report it to Customer Service as deceased, though it'd be better to handle this on your own if you're able.

Mike Stangel I made it publice, but couldn't find any way to 'edit' it. and make him deceased? hmm

Whoah, nevermind, it just popped up and I marked it deceased, and now I can merge. Thanks!
