ATTENTION Curators, please assist

I have not intentionally made any of my profiles private. I was under the impression that you had to designate them Private or they would be Public Profiles. I agree that most should be public. If I find any profiles that I entered are designated Private, I will change them to Public Profiles.

I want to thank everyone who helped clean up the Yount Family profiles. You all do fantastic work!

HI, Wanda. There is a nice list view you can get under the "Family" menu (select "Lists" ;-) ... there you can with a single click change the Public / Private status ... really pretty quick.

If you don't see a yellow panel on the left side of that list, click the "Show Advanced controls" option (at the top of the list). That will let you refine the overall Family Tree search list in a variety of ways ... such as only showing those currently Private.

This works for *all* Geni members.

Need help with a profile with wrong mother, "Immanuel Samuelsson Agrell" born 1758 in Linneryd, Sweden. He is connected to "Christina von Boisman" who died in 1745. According to the church records hes real mother was "Hedvig Charlotta Schmiedeberg". I have contacted his manager but got no answer. Can anyone please help with the change?

Private User -- I moved Immanuel to his correct mother.

FYI: As a Pro member, you probably could have done that yourself:

1) Click the 'more' on Immanuel's (Tree View!) box, and select "Move ...". That will put a "screen copy" floating around.
2) Scroll the screen over to the correct mother.
3) Drag that "floating profile" on top of the correct mother's profile and "drop" it.
4) A menu of options will display, allowing you to select that Immanuel is her Son.

At that point, Immanuel as conflicting parents (two mothers).

To finish the "fix", either edit Immanuel's profile, going to the Relationship tab, and remove the incorrect parental connection.

Alternatively, after refreshing the page (so that Immanuel shows a yellow triangle on his Tree View box), click that triangle. In the pop-up panel, then click the "Assign Parents" at the bottom, which leads to where you select the correct parents. (There are no duplicates to deal with in this case, so you don't have to do anything with the rest of that 'panel').

As long as all profiles are public, any Pro member (such as yourself) can do this.

Oh, Kenneth. I left Erik as Christina's son, since the timeline seems to indicate she probably died in childbirth.

You can 'Delete' your postings on the discussions.
To the left next to your profile photo, under your name and time you entered the post is the option to 'Delete', and when you post in a discussion Geni automatically selects for you to 'Follow' that discussion.

I wonder if its possible to export your photos from Geni? When exporting a GEDCOM all the links are there in the file, but not the photos.

I had some problems uploading a Gedcom from Geni. It does not seem to accept the file. I have no idea what is the problem. Any suggestion? Thanks.

I use the program to. Remember you have 100k names and who knows how many pictures, and depending on your computer speed it can take a really long time,
Start the program before you go to bed and check the next day, Make sure your computer is NOT set to go to sleep so she can run all nite,

Thanks Marvin The irony is that I earlier made a mistake and I upload my forest and it was close to 100 K and it worked beautifully. I did not mean to have this so they deleted for me. My new file was about 1000 profiles and it did not work.

You can use MyMeritage (you get get it for free) to get the pictures on your PC (and remove MyMeritage when the import has finished). Then you could probably import the pictures in Legacy.

I am going to try My Heritage also. I want to get the photos also after the effort to put them in.

seems like we are losing talent.. that is a shame but to each his own i suppose i have used the programs mentioned in your posts

Job, the problem with Geni GEDCOM is that you can´t choose how many ancestor lines it will contain. You can choose bloodrelatives, ancestors aso but you cant cut after say 20 generations. In my case that means that after the "fantastic" mixing of profiles of real people, with fantasy-figures like Odin and unreal connections to Djingis Kahn and Pharaons etc etc, my GEDCOM contains 100.000 plus profiles with over 35.000 pictures. Unless you use all the computers of UCLA you cannot handle that with your average home computer. No picture program can handle files with 1GB+ data. That´s why there is a problem getting photos out of Geni.

If I go to my own photoalbums in Geni there is no way to export them from there. Don´t understand why though, that would be the easiest way to do it.

Geni is by no means the best way to handle your family photos.

You can use Myherotage smoothly, clearly paying too, but with one big difference, the tree is yours, no curator or Pro can mess with you,.
All it does Myheritage the checks against hundreds of thousands of trees, and informs you that you have a match, there are two paths you can take or ignore it or wish to confirm their sources, then use it and will have results for you amazing as I received yesterday, confirming the Almanach de Gotha, 1861,

Then I have no simple solution for you.
I also have a download of 100.000 profiles.
I have storage enough on an external drive, so i just downloaded all pictures for those profiles. MyHeritage can handle them from the external drive.

Anyone can make mistakes, but if this is the period 1800 - 1000 BC there are thousands or hundreds of trees that match their profiles or not, there you should study and look to see who is right or wrong, a very clear example.
Cristobal Colon or whatever you prefer to call his biography does not agree with the majority, have a Curatorr or MP, what work does it do? prevent others put their data, but the study? is a specialist in the topic?

The problem is not with famous people, it's with all our obscure ancestors. If all my ancestors were German nobles listed in the Almanach de Gotha, I'd be very excited to just copy the information there.

But my ancestors were mostly obscure people. I have to research them myself. Working on my own, I might not know that John Brewster was not a son of Elder William Brewster, "Mayflower" Passenger, or that Gabriel Gilbert Loving, Sr's parentage is highly speculative, or that Thomas Loving had only one known child, to whom he left his entire estate.

If I were working on MyHeritage, I could copy the same Internet myths and think I was doing genealogy. On Geni there are other people to tell me when I'm wrong ;)

I have been constructing my tree and I have been informed that i am inadvertently causing duplicates to arise in "the big tree". I am unable to discern where the duplicates are occurring in my tree, let alone how to remedy. And lastly, how do i know when i am creating a profile for an already existing profile? I would just like to clean up my tree and utilize existing profiles so that i do not cause duplicates for other members.
I am a basic user, so i am probably limited in my options.
Can someone please help?
