I've mentioned before that the manager of those profiles Elias Abraham has a huge number of historical profiles with living status = true, who are long dead. Any time you see a profile with him as manager, you should be suspicious. Also, he shows up as the great grandfather of someone from several hundred years ago, so I believe he is a claimed historical profile. And hasn't been online for over a year as I remember. I have reported him twice Mike Stangel

thanks Ofir.
thanks Hatte.

Interesting, his profile is private but there is a duplicate for him (and a lot of his family) that is public.
The merge i want to do is all public so i was only trying to contact him as a courtesy, i'll just get on with it instead of waiting for him to reply.
Thanks Ashley.
Thanks Ashley.
;)

His mother Private is active and might be able to help you.

A agree, those profiles should not public, the manager of Unknown Profile should do something about it.

If she is active surely she can claim her own duplicate and change the settings to private, once merged all the surrounding profiles would be within her Family Group and so she would have management rights even if not a PRO?

I don't even know how i connect to them, only that Wout manages duplicates of some of my distant early 1800s cousins.

Hello,

I would like these profiles to be made public. They are probably not living.

Thank you very much

Cecil

Cecil - you will need to contact the manager - both are "Claimed Family"

As a curator I cannot help you with that since they have grandchildren which are Geni users, and only they can do something with that.
Unfortunately they seem to be inactive, but Private User might be able to help you if he agrees that those profiles can be public.

Thank you Blorn
Thank you JUne

O'll try Michael Fox. So far, I didn't hear from anybody else.

Please check last online Private User

Thanks Ofir

If I am inactive for 1 year, does that mean that my whole tree can/will go public??

Private User What you are seeing here are people who are inquiring about the activity of those who do not respond to merge requests or messages. After a year of inactivity a person can be reported as having abandoned their tree. Geni will decide which part of the tree should be made public and what should be private. Geni seems to be very slow about releasing profiles of abandoned trees.Releasing does not seem to be any kind of priority for Geni

Thank you Eldon :-)

I just LOVE when people are merging the profiles I have made without even bother to tell me how we are related, or ask me if the merging is ok!

Private User It doesn't make any difference if people are related for merging and some of us are tired of not getting answers from managers of potential merges. That is one reason we ask the curators for last online info. If there are duplicates, they should be merged, hopefully to prevent errors.

Eldon: I agree with you. What I mean is when people merge without asking/telling. I also wonder if someone says "no" to a merge, will that give you a negative response, or does i mean that you don't get an answer at all from the manager of the profile you want to merge?

Gunn
Geni is not the place to have a private tree.
it is going for 1 big world tree, were all douplicates should be merged.

private tree`s,should be kept else were.

no problem with private profiles, just to send out family groupe request to those involved.
this is other`s in your family line.
or others, working with the same family :-)

Private User I don't know what the answer is to a no to a merge. What i do know is that when i have a merge in my merge center that is over a year old, I try to find out if the other manager has abandoned the tree. Depending on what I find out, I either cancel the merge request or just ignore it for a while longer hoping the profile will be released.

Gunn
Geni is about collaboration.
if you don`t want to,then you end up with a lot of merge issues.
causing problems for you,and a lot of others.

private or not

Martin – re: “Geni is not the place to have a private tree.

This is just not an accurate statement of how everyone sees it. See http://www.geni.com/discussions/111453?msg=806788 and the comment after, for example.

Geni has always very clearly stated that Geni is about family sharing privately with one another. Geni promises that you can make everyone in your Max Extended Family Private – ie everyone back to your 3rd GreatGrandparents and out to your 4th Cousins. As Ken explains in the comment linked to, on Geni “recent generations are optionally fully private, but earlier generations are fully public.” And he then beautifully describes The World Tree as “Private trees that blend upwards into the public Big Tree”.

Yes, there is a Goal of no duplicates in the Big Tree – BUT my understanding is, this is a Goal – if folks are not comfortable yet merging a givenprivate profile or profiles (or Public ones on a separate Tree), it is not required that they do so. It is not duplicates “should be merged” but a hoping that eventually they will be. (In my view - about equally as likely as that all folks who ever lived in the past will be discovered and entered on the Tree – which is also part of the 1 big world tree as I understand it.)

it.should.not.make.a.difference........private.trees.do.not.control.public.information......when.necessary.just.go.around.them........it.is.all.one.tree.
