With regard to the previous message: When moving through the Time-Line from latest ancestor to earlier ancestors the tree shows two Walter Tyrell's. Moving through the Time-Line from the earlier to the later ancestor does not show both Walter Tyrell's, and only shows the duped in Walter Tyrell (Name Only).

Hi Sylvan Francis Tyrrel, Jr.
We worked on the incomplete merges in the area of the tree that you mentioned above. Please check it and see if we missed anything.

Thank you Linda,
Everything look as it did last January 2012. Out of curiosity, was (or is) Bonnie Grogan Frazier a member or other?
All for the Best,
Sylvan

The problems you saw were caused by some incomplete merges.

Linda,
I see that you are my 10th cousin, once removed (interesting but I don't know the how of 'once removed').
Sylvan

FYI: the "X removed" means that there is a "mis-match" in the number of "steps up the tree" (to common family/parents) vs. the "steps down the tree".

It is not at all unusual to have people born in nearly the same calendar year be several "generations" apart.

To use a simple example: my mother's second cousin would be my 2nd cousin once removed.

10th counsin once removed means either your mother or fathers 10th cousin or the child of a 10th cousin (one generation shift).

Hi, What do you do if you know that a manager is deceased and you have a merge issue/ Case in pointnCecile OUzon passed away in 2008 and I need to merge a few profiles. Thanks.

Cecil Stuart Dana, - You report that manager as deceased and let customer support take care of it.

On the managers (and all other profiles) you have a Report menu option in the [Actions] menu in the top right corner of his/hers profile.
As the report option you select "Deceased" and you can also supply more information in the report text, including suggesting who should be the manager of his/hers managed profiles.

Thank you Bjorn.

Hi, My brother-in-law was invited to geni and when he joined he started his own tree Unknown Profile Eric Newcom and there was already a tree for him to work from Eric Alan Newcom Eric Newcom. (not sure which of this trees he started on June 1, 2012. This caused merger issues on my wife Private Karen S Blair, HIs wife Samantha Barbara Newcom Samantha Barbara Newcom (Barry) and his children Private, Private User and Annamarie A Newcom. Eric was asked to Collaborate with me and join the family group, however, even after he claims to have accepted they do not seem to show a connection. He removed the privacy to public which allowed me to merger Karen S Blair, Amber Newcom and Adrew Newcom. To make this long story short there are now 2 profiles for Eric A Newcom and Eric Alan Newcom with his wife Samantha Barbara Newcom (Barry) as duplicates. He said he has tried to merge the file with no success and I also have tried to merge. I do know that Eric Alan Newcom is managed by Duane Glass which at one point in time I was able to collaborate with but it does not seem to be the case now. Can you please give some help or direction to solving the issue.
David Alan Blair

You can merge two user profiles by assigning the same email address.

You can also help him as a Pro user if he temporary opens up for family to edit his profile on both accounts

Could someone please divorce Unknown Profile from Ichabod Camp

She should be merged with Phoebe Northrup

Thanks!

Done.

Thanks Hatte!

There may be some data conflicts due to merges and since I don't manage or curate them, they aren't in my merge center, so you should check since I had to do a number of merges in the family as a result of the one merge.

My second cousin and I want to merge our duplicate profiles. But, even though we have identified each other as family and as collaborators, we are still unable to perform merges, due to the fact that neither one of us currently has a paid "Pro" membership.

The profiles we wish to merge are those of John Rote Unknown Profile, and John Charles Rote John Charles Rote..., and all related profiles.

Thanks for your help, this has been extremely frustrating.

I just sent you a Private Message, Pamela D Lloyd. You need one paying Geni member in the Family Group (at least temporarily) to merge duplicates.

Many thanks to those of you who have offered help! We have, for the moment, taken care of the merges that were most pressing. Now, Geni actually acknowledges the connection between my second cousin and myself. :-)

I have a niece that I sent e-mail, but I just fouind out that e-mail was her work e-mail, which she is not allowed to open.....how can I switch to
her home e-mail address.

@Del Packer I have been a GENI user for a wee while and found it a successful place to develop "in prvate" a family tree which was great untill there were requests made to me via "moderators" to merge trees. I have never agreed or sent requests (sister-in-law excepted) to anyone. About 12 months or so ago I found I had Great grand relatives who were now their own half brothers my own Grandmother who is also her own half sister etc etc. I have repeatedly asked the person responsible to repair and leave well alone but no avail. I am unable to effect a repair because Geni presumes that MY tree now has other stakeholders. That appears to leave me with no options but to to dismantle the whole project. It appears that GENI assumes to know better.

Delroy Packer, I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations. Can you start by telling us which specific profiles have problems, and what needs to be corrected?

Hi Ashley

Ellen Haddon Woller vs Ellen Haddon Robinson
My GM was born E H Robinson, she married Peter Christian Woller and then married Gordon Cunningham

This Particular merge that took place without my input causes a whole lot of double ups in both directions.

Help

Thanks for your response

Delroy Packer Hi Ashley did you get my post

Delroy Packer
There are duplicates for James Rowe Robinson connected to Maraea Shelford as her husband and father of children.
If they are the same person they should be Merged and then the relationships should become listed correctly.

You are a manager of both Profiles for James Robinson, but if you are a 'Basic' user then are unable to merge the profiles, I see that Sandra Jacalyn Haley is a manager for one and a 'Pro' user, can you contact her to do the merges? Your single managed Profile for James is selected as 'Private' so for her to merge them, she will need to be added as manager 'or' your 'Private' setting changed to 'Public' (which can be changed back after the merge is complete).

Carole,

At some stage, curators will realise that this is a problem affecting many members with New Zealand trees, not an isolated incident. I have pleas for help from seven members in my mail box.

I refer you to http://www.geni.com/discussions/110742

I wish someone would take this seriously. The damage to the tree is increasing on an hourly basis.

Del. I strongly advise to make as much of your tree Private as possible - NOW.
The tree may look a mess, but it will look considerably worse very soon if you don't.

A problem that has been created by these "self procreating" merges is how many "extra relatives" that I now have. (Even though they are the same people; some are now there own half-siblings). I also now exceed the number of relatives that I am allowed to have on my tree without being expected to upgrade to " Pro". It couldnt be a deliberate ploy to compell me to upgrade , could it. All I would need to be able to fix my tree is to be able to edit it as before. Before a GENI busy-body thought they new best.
