Check your document again: Isn't there a link to the uploaded original?
The images is just a preview.

OK, I think I've got it.
The answer lies in viewing the 'Original PDF'. It takes a few secs to load and then once completely loaded I have to click on the mouse-over toolbar in the bottom right-hand corner and press the button with the 4 arrows in a box. That will allow me to view all the pages page by page. I've only tested it 2 or 3 times which should be enough.
Thanks to all those who assisted. :-)

@Brendan Swemmer ..... What am I doing wrong! :) I had no problem viewing the complete booklet in and out of Geni. Like the Brox pointed out when viewing in Geni it is an image also in the upper left corner there is the view original button. It also worked.....Your pamphlet is fine on my end You are probably OK......ttfn

I used both acrobat and the standard reader if it helps.......

Thanks alot.
I'll put your comments in the project and credit you, and everyone else that has helped, if you don't mind.

Thanks for the shout out Brendan Swemmer. I was having similar problems awhile back. I used your pdf to check if my problem was gone. Thank you !..ttfn

would some one please check last online for Carol Ann McCann
She is the manager of a private profile for Meredith Willson "The Music Man"
Robert Meredith Willson (May 18, 1902 – June 15, 1984) was an American composer, songwriter, conductor and playwright

Eldon Lester Clark
she was last online : 9. desember 2010

Thank you Martin, I will report her and make a new profile for Robert Meredith Willson

Hi -

I'd like to request your assistance on merge gone wrong. I may have been responsible for part of this, but not all of it!

The two key profiles in question are Noel Blanchet and Pierre Blanchet. It turns out there are two Noel Blanchets - one is the grandson of the other.

Grandpa Noel:
a) Charles Noel Blanchet
Grandson Noel:
b) http://www.geni.com/people/N%C3%B6el-Blanchet/6000000008115015602
And now both profiles merged together:
c) Noël Blanchet

and Grandpa Noel's son, Pierre:
Pierre Francois Blanchette

who now has two sets of parents.

I've tried to select the proper parents for Pierre, but it says that doing so will split the tree, and I don't think I have permissions to break individual relationships. Can someone take a look and try to clean this up? I already contact the manager for Noel Blanchet but he hasn't responded yet.

Hi, Private User ... the 1707 Noel Unknown Profile currently has no parents ... do his parents exist on the tree?

The two sets of parents for Pierre Pierre Francois Blanchette looks like it can be resolved by merging those parent pairs.

Will that "fix it"? I don't see a need to disconnect a set of Pierre's parents -- just merge them.

Hi Dan. I merged the two Madeleine Valet's. I also was able to combine Pierre's parents - thanks for that.

There is still a problem though - this Noel Blanchet is still listed as married to Madeleine Valet.

Can you disconnect Noël Blanchet from Madeleine Blanchet?

Thanks!

O.k.: Madeleine is now solely in her correct century!

I also cleaned a bit 'upward' in the tree. Does that look o.k. now?

Now all you need to do is to ask Marissa Heffernan to collaborate with you to complete the merge on Pierre-Alphonse Blanchet's wife.

Marissa Heffernan was last on-line in May of this year.

Help, please. I added a profile to the wrong place in the tree and I can't fix it. Everything I tried only made things worse. I now have 2 profiles for Maria Boyington (my gr. grandmother and the daughter of Benjamin Burlingame) and 3 profiles for Chester A. Beasley, her second husband (not her son)

Maria Boyington
Mariah Isabelle Beasley (Burlingame)

Mariah Isabelle Beasley (Burlingame)?through=6000000016013832147

Chester Beasley

Chester Arthur Beasley

Unknown Profile (dupe of profile above)

Unknown Profile

The URLs for some of these profiles look strange. Geni seems to think that some of the duplicates are the same profile. If I make a change to one of them, the change appears in both. If delete one, both are deleted.

I'd appreciate it if someone could fix this for me. I have only a Geni Basic account, so I tried to work on this using Geni Public Access at my library, but even with Pro privileges, I couldn't find a way to fix it.

Also, what do the URLs in the form xxx?through=xxx mean?

Finally, what is the correct way to handle this kind of mistake? It seems to me that Geni's move feature is rather primitive. When I tried to move Chester from the child position to the husband position, it allowed it, but it left the incorrect child Chester in place, and it created another Maria as his wife. I understand that that in some cases you might want to have the same profile in multiple positions, but it should have asked me if that was my intention. Also, it doesn't you any feedback when the move fails.

Thanks!
Marilyn

P.S. I hope the family relations are clear. To rephrase:

1. Benjamin Burlingame had a daughter, Maria Boyington.
2. Maria Boyington's second husband was Chester Beasley.
3. Maria had only one husband, not two, with the name Chester Beasley.
4. Maria did not have a son named Chester Beasley.
5. Maria's nonexistent son was not also married to Maria Boyington.

P.P.S. I couldn't get the @ link feature to work. Is there a trick to it?

At what point do we consider a tree abandoned? How many years can go by with no signing on before Geni, takes over. My younger sister seems to have given up on this site as of March 2010, without finishing merges and her profiles are private not public. And my father who never gets on here... for many, many years, is the manger of profiles that also need to be merged. As we have all seemed to have had a falling out...don't ask. The rest of the family is not sure how to merge our tree profiles with my sisters profiles to clean up our tree. Any thoughts?
Thanks...

1.) You are new...so just be patient....you will get used to the system.
2.) in a person's profile there are a number of pages....one is relationships....it is IMPORTANT that you CODE the spouses.....so Chester Beasley would be husband #2 to her....if he was previously unmarried...HIS relationship would be #1 to Maria...

3.) in relationship's, if you wait a little, a list wil appear that shows: parents, and spouses.....and you can REMOVE an incorrect spouse by clicking it on and clicking the red "remove".

Just go S L O W L Y.....and check the tree view after each 'remove'...
On the tree view the most recent spouse should show NEXT to the person, the former spouse will be further away (like in ancient history).

PS...You did the RIGHT thing to ask early on...and we all had to get used to how to do things....so give yourself a break....and don't get frustrated....you can always ask anyone for help...

Could someone please tell me last online date of the following profiles?
These are the list of people who have not responded to my collaboration request.

Will a curator be able to mark these as abandoned trees if the last online date is older than 1 year?
Or do I have to report each separately?

Marilyn Jean Horn -- most of the tree around Maria Boyington looked correct when I just checked ... no spurious sons! There were two Chester's (they had different ID numbers), so I merged them. That should take care of the 'structural' things.

the "?thru=xxxx" is an indication of a "return path"... it is sort of "how you got to the current page".

There are two ways to put in a "hot link" to a profile (whether historic or current user):

1) Ctrl-Click (right-click) on an existing link to that person, selecting "Copy Link Address" ... then you can paste it.

2) Select and copy just the long number which is the profile's ID; then put it inside of "double square brackets" e.g. [ [ xxxxxxxxxxxx ] ] (but without the space which I put in so you can see them!)

The 2nd method works most consistently, because it doesn't matter if there are "unusual" characters in the person's name.

Private User - re: abandoned trees.

As I recall, the current policy is one year ... and even then, Customer Service only considers turning them over to someone in the same Family Group. The assumption is that someone may have "finished" their branch and just wants it to set there. As long as it is private and not connected to the "Big Tree", that's o.k. (Yes, it may be frustrating if there seems to be "good info" there, but that's policy.)

re: family group

The main thing is that to get "connected" to one of the profiles in your sister's group. If there are currently no public profiles in her tree, you need to get cooperation from someone with a login from within that "branch". Customer Service is the last resort.

Thanks Dan (and Fay),

I tried Fay's suggestion to sever the relationships between the bad profiles and the good ones, so that may explain why it looked neater. Thanks for merging the 2 remaining Chesters.

And thank you for explaining the concept of "return path" and how to create hot links. Up to now, I've been creating them by copying the entire URL.

The one remaining mystery (for now) is how the @ symbol is supposed to work. As far as I can tell, it doesn't. Geni says:

"Use the @ symbol and start typing the name of a profile on Geni to tag it in your post. "

I've tried it several times, and nothing happens. Also (and I think this may be related), you're supposed to be able to add a user's address to the address line when sending a message to the manager of a profile. That has never worked for me either.

Tip: first view the profile to "float it to the top" of your list. Another tip: follow.

Also I don't think the @ sign is enabled within profile overviews, it's a messaging tool.

To be able to tag people and profiles using the @ method in discussions is when these people or profiles are in your shortcut list, - your list of recently visited profiles or following (not all).

You can report them (under the Action button) .... Briefly explain in the note why (no response) and your relationship to the person or the profiles which you wish to 'connect' with.

Thanks Dan Cornett!

Thanks, Erica and Bjørn for the tips, but I still haven't been able to get the @ feature to work. I wasn't trying to use it in profiles, just in messages.

Erica, it looks like your second tip got truncated.

Bjørn, thanks for explaining what a shortcut list is -- I couldn't find it in the documentation. However, the screen instructions clearly imply that you should be able to type any profile name, not just the name of a recently viewed one.

No matter. It doesn't seem to work even with recently viewed profiles. I tried looking at your profile and typing '@b', and nothing happened. Shouldn't a list of my recently-viewed profiles beginning with 'B' have popped up? What am I missing? Could it be a browser issue? I'm using Chrome.

On the good side, the other feature that wasn't working for me (picking an address to add to a message to a profile manager) seems to be fixed now, although I don't think it's nearly as useful as it could be. There should be buttons for adding the curator or the other managers of the profile to the address list, because those are the people you're most likely to want to cc. on the message.

Marilyn, - if you take a closer look you only find the help text about using the @ method in discussions, - i.e. not in messages or other text fields.

I'm confused, I guess, I thought this was a discussion. This is the only place I've tried to used it. I wouldn't have known about this feature except that the instructions for it are directly to the right of the box I'm typing in.

You said messages and the I assumed personal messages which does not support profile links.

OK, as I said: The @method does only work on names in your short-list which is a list of cached names loaded with a web page like this. The names on that list is the recently ten visited profiles and then SOME of your managed your followed profiles.

This mean: Visit the profile first and THEN open or refresh (G5) page you want to post a message on.

Anyhow: the foolproof and best way to tag a profile is using the profile-ID inside double brackets directly (as the @method expands to).

Marilyn,
Not sure if it's applicable to your situation but i have found that if i view a persons profile and then hit the Back arrow on Chrome to return to the discussion page then the @ will not work.
Likewise if i visit a profile in one window then use the @ in another window it also will not work.
What i have to do is view the profile the use the Geni banner right at the top to navigate to the discussion i was previously looking at. Not sure if it's a Chrome issue or not. I actually use Bjorn's method of the id number inside of [[double brackets]], that means i can just click on your name, copy your number then hit the back button and paste your number here Marilyn Jean Horn
The xxxx thru xxxx in the url means that the profile has been merged at least once, if there is only one number with no thru xxxx after it then the profile has never been merged.
