A number of us have been waiting for this merge to happen... Is there any way we can speed thingsd up?
http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000007266693895?fsession%5Fid...

Erica, what I am worried about is that when I did the conflict resolution re date of death, it resulted in the person having had a wife and children when he was only 1 year old, and I was trying to fix that. Knowing full well that I made a mistake in doing the conflict resolution.

1. The merge request is to an "unconnected" tree (the warning sign in red at bottom). That means that only the other manager can complete the merge. He was recently online so the tree cannot be reported as abandoned. There's nothing else I know if to do unfortunately.

2. Yes, I understand what happened and the issue with the lost value. I'm just saying that I've been in similar enough situations, and I always try to search out likely information and cite it before giving up and leaving it for the next person to figure out .. .

Sally....Kevin Noyes is new...only on Geni since March....with under 30 profiles.....has anyone asked him to approve the merge? And does he even know WHAT to do?

I gave the link to FindAGrave memorial for Anderson Russell Burleson above ... the birth date, name and death location all match. His wife is buried in the same cemetery, as well as other relatives. That's a good enough confirmation for me to give it as a "source", correct his death date, and to add the burial location. I also corrected his wife's birth date based on her gravestone (I checked the picture, not just the date field, too.)

Thank you, Dan!

Kevin Noyes will collaborate, just send him a request.

Sally Thomas,
I asked Kevin Noyes to collaborate and after he consented I completed lots of merges including the one in the merge compare in your message.

Dan... You are the greatest!

Thank you, ladies and gents for your assistance...

Thank you everyone for the reminder to send out collaboration requests. I keep forgetting to do that and as we've just learned, helps so much.

I just found another little problem.... Here we have a sibling (Richard Gatewood) of a profile person (Frances) who is also a husband to the profile person (Frances). And so cannot be merged.

You're welcome, Sally.

I often browse the "Find other XXX in this cemetery" of a known person ... sometimes I get matches to expand on details of existing profiles in Geni .... or add new ones (if the FindAGrave entry has relationships or more details, particularly). For example, I have found children who "died young" that aren't necessarily documented elsewhere.

re: Gatewoods ... too many with similar names! I did some obvious untangling (children born after mother died), but there need to be some good references to finish sorting this out.

ok, Dan

@ Dan, just wrote an article on the problem you speak of. Am posting it to the Gustave Anjou Project. Thanks for posting...

Could one of you awesome curators please assist me? Someone had merged the William Thompson of England with the William Thompson of Ireland. I had to create a new one for Unknown Profile so could someone please put a curator note on him so no one else confuses him with William Thompson, Sr.

Thanks.

Private Done - please check that it is what you wanted!

I noticed that the auto-complete function for the location field in the edit box for adding documents is no longer functional. Anyone else having trouble with this? I upload lots of documents, so it's a pain...

Me, too. It works for me intermittently or if I save and re-edit. Its been raised to Geni but we can whine some more perhaps.

Howdy Do Curators,

I've had an unresolved bug issue with my service from the start. I haven't been able to access the help options, or even been able to respond to service tickets issued to me after contacting support via e-mail. First, the system didn't recognize me as being a "pro member" with access, but support was able to fix that. Now it just will not accept my password; I followed up with a report to support, but after two weeks they haven't fixed, or responded back with their progress. Has anyone else had this same problem? Can anyone help support figure this bug out? I thank you for your time, and consideration.

Respectfully,
William

Thanks Private User - looks good. Now I just need a divorce for unknown and William Thomalin in order to splint the tree.

Private, They have been split apart. I have removed the marriage between them.

Please have a look at the tree to see if there is anything else that we need to do for you.

Kevin

Kevin Lawrence Hanit Thanks a bunch! My Thompson tree now looks in sync :-)

OK, this is getting really frustrating. I'm trying to load a scanned booklet into my project but when I or anybody else wants to view it each page has to be rotated 3 times. And it doesn't look like its taking all 17 pages.

First I tried scanning it into PDF, as was suggested in this discussion. Then I tried scanning it into Word, as suggested, but to no avail. And Geni doesn't accept .doc's so I converted the .doc to .pdf but still no luck.

Does anybody know how I can load it so that each page appears the right way up and small enough to fit inside Geni's document view pane without me having to go and resize each individual page in the scanned image?

The project is -
http://www.geni.com/projects/South-Africa-History-and-Families-of-W...

Brendan Swemmer - that link does not lead to a public project, so we can't see it.

The document upload problem may partly be related to size. I know when linking large web-documents, they won't load properly if the web-page is too big (or the text pasted into a new, online-created document is too much).

17 pages ... Try first 6 pages alone (as a .PDF); If that doesn't work, I try 1 page PDF (to see if that works and what it looks like), then try 2 pages (to see if there are problems with multi-page PDFs).

Maybe we can get a definitive current document size limitation from Natalie MacLees or Mike Stangel

Thanks, Dan

Hopefully this link will help as I don't know how to make it public which I thought it was -
http://www.geni.com/projects/South-Africa-History-and-Families-of-W...

I did at first load each page one by one as a picture, as a jpg but then they still had to be rotated 3 times and they were too small. I was hoping to make it so that the entire booklet could be viewed in one frame, not separately.

Also, as jpegs they weren't viewable in the correct order.

ahhh. ... that latest link works!

When I select the "View Larger" or (then) "Original PDF) I see all 17 pages ... albeit they are all "Landscape" ... when you converted to the PDF, perhaps there was an auto-rotate option set by default? That's what it looks like.

Unfortunately most simple 'document printing' which creates a PDF won't let you have some pages landscape and others portrait intermixed during the process of "printing", so the original document has to have pages in the desired orientation and to disable (uncheck) any auto-rotate options before "printing to PDF". The biggest 'pain' with that is that the landscape-pages which are shown in portrait are either not going to be optimal size ... or worse (e.g.: truncated).

The other option is to "print" the portrait and landscape pages separately (two documents).

Where do you select 'View Larger'? I only see 'Rotate', Identify and Original PDF. Is there a 'View Smaller' button?

And I have a slow connection so clicking on 'Original PDF' takes several minutes to complete.

I did try scanning them in at different positions but no matter which way I do it they still have to be rotated 3 times in Geni's document view.

William Todd Serocki you seem fine on Geni so to double check, you are talking about the Help platform, http://help.geni.com/ (link at bottom of every Geni page) and the auto login there? The usual answer is "clear your browser cache / delete cookies" but be sure you have your passwords before doing so, as you will need to re enter them.

Brendan Swemmer - when I look at that project, I then click on the Photos and Documents section.

Within that section I currently see one document: "White Sands..."

When I hover over that document I get a pop-up "big balloon" with an Action button on it. One of the choices is "View Larger" ... that one lets me scroll nicely through the document. Although it is viewed "portrait" (I have to turn my head to the right to read the text). There is no "Rotate" with this view.

When viewing in another window (either via Action button or just by clicking on the document), then I see a Rotate option -- but that (as I would expect) only applies to the current page view.

When you view the originally-created PDF on your computer, is it "right-side up"? Or is original oriented, as I see in the "View Larger", with the "bottom of the text" on the left side (that is, each page is viewed in "portrait", not landscape)?
