Ken - I don't think you got this quite right. http://www.geni.com/company/privacy shows private profiles out to You
Your Great-Great-Great-Grandparents & Closer irrespective of living status
In the blog, Geni has said: "We didn't make any changes to privacy with this release. Your max Family Group (third great grandparents/fourth cousins and closer) are still private by default. Essentially, we only removed unclaimed profiles from the Family Group list."
Many have asked what was the point of the change. You always could remove unclaimed profiles from the Family Group list by filtering on claimed, so what was the point of this release "enhancement"?
Also - maybe we shouldn't be continuing this discussion in the curators please help thread, now we have established that curators can't help other than badgering Geni with the rest of us to advocate for change.
I have read no purpose or support for the enhancement from anyone, be they Geni staff, curator or otherwise.
Hi everyone. We just released some changes that should address your concerns:
* Added "Family Tree" to the list views, this will be the new default list
* Added "Family Tree" to profile stats, this will replace Family Members
The "Family Tree" list includes all the profiles that were listed before under the Family Group list. This essentially returns the functionality that was lost in yesterday's release.
Well, our tree has been destroyed for about the 4th time--leveled. Seriously? At least I am not the only "pro"complaining this time. PLEASE give my 100,000 Ancestors back and Mark's too. His tree has gone from 100,000 to 91. AWFUL!!!! Its gone from BAD to worse. Is it time to say: have a good night?
Michael, we didn't change anything related to ancestors. If you're talking about the number that appears in the Statistics module on your profile page, those are specially-calculated for Pro's and occasionally don't get updated; in case that's what you mean, I've told the system to recalculate the stats for you and your husband.
I have a simple problem. When I started using Geni in summer 2007, I began it as a tree based on my Wife. She passed away in 2009. Whenever I send greetings out to anyone it says it came from my late wife. How do I simply establish myself as the sender of anything from me at Geni? Your jargon is and will remain foreign to me, ie. the use of @ symbol, profile, tag, post, thread, et al. I just need procedure to make the above change. RK
[353410097070013049] So you started a tree essentially pretending you were your wife. Presumably there is a profile connected to your wife that IS you. I would suggest that put your e-mail address on the profile that IS you and mark your wife's profile as deceased. It must be terribly upsetting to you and any relatives recieving messages so addressed and I'm sorry for your loss.
Think Terry meant: Gayle Kneebone (Wallace) (double-brackets each end)
I would elaborate - add an e-mail address to your real profile - if necessary, create another e-mail address, so you can enter one different from the one you use as your wife, and accept the invite. Then go to Account Settings on your wife's account and choose Close Account - I believe you have the ability when closing to designate who will become manager of your profiles - designate yourself. [if don't see that -- then do so manually before completing closing the Account] Choose 'Deceased' as reason for closing the Account. Then, if you want to go back to the other e-mail address, you can to that (add it, change Primary e-mail to it, then if desired, delete the one you don't want) -- but Geni will not let you have two people with same e-mail, so to start - use different e-mail in your own Profile.
You cannot simply mark a claimed Profile as deceased. And since you have access to it -- I think closing Account is better procedure than reporting it.
