That's interesting, Erica. I think most of Mareen's descendants on Geni are from Susannah Brashears. I happen to be descended from Mary Bouth/South, though.

Can someone explaine to me why when I try to merge these profiles that geni hangs... have tried for 2 days and each time it gets stuck....

well it looks like there is just too much to merge... maybe that is the problem. I do not understand this. I only see one merge, but this long thingy, that I copied from the top of my computer, shows that there are many....

Sally, You had five profiles to merge and have to do them one at a time, should be OK now

Can someone help? Looking at my cousin's book on our family, I see that I am a descendant of Gov Thomas Dudley as follows:

daughter Mercy Woodbridge married Rev Benjamin Ruggles

daughter Fanny Maria Gallup married Giles Williams (my gg grandparents)

I went to Ruth Ruggles' profile of my collaborator, Bjorn Petter Brox and added the Kent and Phelps profiles and then moved that Margaret Phelps to merge her with my ggg grandmother Margaret Phelps, wife of Lodowick Gallup.

Lodowick Gallup still shows up as my ggg grandfather but Margaret Phelps shows up as a distant cousin now, even though her daughter Fanny shows up as my gg grandmother.

Hatte, you should report this as an error:

Hatte Anne Blejer is Lodowick Gallup's third great granddaughter.
Hatte Anne Blejer is Margaret Gallup (Phelps)'s 8th cousin 7 times removed.

It must be some cached relationship or some error in Geni since your third great grandmother is not listed with the same relationship as your third great grandfather.

In response to the seeing previous pages issues, I found that if you go back to the discussion list, click the discussion rather than the last comment, you can page thru to the correct page, even moving several pages at once foward, but moving backwards is still problematic.

Thanks, I've reported it. I'm waiting with bated breath to see my relationship to Governor Thomas Dudley and Governor William Leete but this caching problem has wasted a couple of hours.

I'm still missing a couple of my great grandparents in some levels and not to mention the fact that their sibilngs appear as one level before them so
my 8th GG brother is my 9th great uncle
and my 6th great grandmother is the GG of my 2nd great uncle ( they were both from the same family line but diffrenet paths

Yes on both sides of my family -- Lithuanian Jewish and early American -- I am related to ancestors via multiple paths, hence the problem when the relationship is cached I guess.

I reported that cached relationship "bug" to Geni months ago.

As I recall, the response was that it is a "feature" rather than a "bug".

All bugs are "features"... probably a better way to describe it is as an "unwanted feature"... no confusion that way.

Generally in IT speak:
Bug = the software does not work to specification
Feature = the software does work to specification

On that basis, it is easy to persuade the programmers to fix bugs. It is their job to program to spec.

But features can't be changed until the spec is changed. That's a more complex process, and it's not the responsibility of the programmer to change the spec.

Probably need the programmer to cite the specification that the feature meets... yikes, that almost sounded ISO'ish...

Generally it's the other way round - the programmer needs to be shown how the feature differs from the spec before it is recognised as a bug. If the way the program works is consistent with the spec (such as if the spec is silent on the matter or ambiguous) then no bug is proven.

Okay now my ggg grandmother whose relationship is cached incorrectly as a distant cousin has "infected" my ggg grandfather so he no longer shows up as my ggg grandfather although he did earlier today. Unbelievable.
